Dubai Advances Flexible Government Work Environments with 2026 Edition of ‘Our Flexible Summer’ Initiative
Dubai: Government entities across Dubai have commenced the implementation of the 2026 edition of ‘Our Flexible Summer’. This initiative, launched by the Dubai Government Human Resources Department (DGHR), aims to create more adaptable and human-centered work environments while enhancing the quality of life for government employees.
The initiative embodies Dubai’s commitment to establishing future-ready workplaces that prioritize people in development. It recognizes that quality of life is essential for fostering productivity, innovation, and sustainable institutional performance.
Evolution of Government Work Environments
‘Our Flexible Summer’ was designed in response to the changing needs of government employees during the summer months. It acknowledges the growing importance of balancing professional responsibilities with family commitments.
By analyzing employee needs and incorporating their feedback, DGHR has developed a flexible working model that supports both employees and their families. This model ensures business continuity while maintaining high standards of government service delivery.
The initiative underscores DGHR’s dedication to transforming employee insights into actionable policies and programs that enhance workplace experiences and contribute to the ongoing evolution of government work environments.
Balance in Quality of Life and Performance
The ‘Our Flexible Summer’ initiative illustrates that employee wellbeing and quality of life can coexist with operational efficiency and service excellence. It reflects a broader strategy aimed at developing flexible work models that cater to the needs of employees and their families while assisting government entities in meeting their institutional objectives.
In addition to its workplace advantages, the initiative enables employees to spend more quality time with their families during the summer. This fosters stronger family bonds and supports overall wellbeing and social cohesion, aligning with Dubai’s broader goals of enhancing quality of life and building a more connected and resilient society.
People at the Heart of Development
His Excellency Abdullah Ali bin Zayed Al Falasi, Director General of the Dubai Government Human Resources Department, stated that the ‘Our Flexible Summer’ initiative has shown that employee wellbeing and quality of life do not compromise performance. Instead, they are critical enablers of institutional success and long-term sustainability. He emphasized that the initiative continues to foster flexible, people-centric government work environments that enhance employee experiences and strengthen the future-readiness of government entities.
He further noted that the initiative reflects Dubai’s government model, which places people at the center of development. Investing in talent and quality of life is fundamental to improving productivity, innovation, and sustainable performance. The initiative also reinforces the commitment to creating attractive, flexible, and future-ready government workplaces that bolster Dubai’s competitiveness and enhance its status as a leading global destination for living and working.
The initiative aligns with the Dubai Government’s efforts to improve workplace quality of life and promote a healthy balance between professional, family, and social commitments, in line with the objectives of the ‘Year of Family’. It also supports sustainable institutional performance and the ongoing delivery of high-quality government services.
Running from 29 June to 10 September 2026, the initiative introduces two flexible working models. These models enable government entities to balance employee needs with operational requirements while ensuring business continuity and service excellence.
Under the initiative, employees in the first group will work seven hours per day from Monday to Thursday and four and a half hours on Friday. Employees in the second group will work eight hours per day from Monday to Thursday, with Friday designated as a day off. Government entities may also implement approved flexible working hours and remote working arrangements based on their operational needs and the nature of their work.
More Flexible Workplaces
The ongoing implementation of ‘Our Flexible Summer’ reflects DGHR’s commitment to developing innovative policies and programs that address employee needs and enhance quality of life while supporting future-ready government workplaces.
This initiative is part of a broader array of policies and programs led by DGHR to improve the government employee experience and enhance the readiness of government work environments for future challenges and opportunities.
Through these initiatives, DGHR continues to support Dubai’s ambition to cultivate a more agile, resilient, and future-ready government, reinforcing the emirate’s position as a global model for human-centered governance.
