DCT Abu Dhabi Launches Immersive Summer Camps for Children Across the Emirate

Abu Dhabi’s Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT Abu Dhabi) has unveiled a series of immersive summer camps designed for children, providing them with opportunities to engage with the emirate’s rich cultural landscape. Running from June to August 2026, these camps will take place in various locations across Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.

The summer camps aim to foster creativity and learning through hands-on experiences in museums, cultural institutions, heritage sites, and performance spaces. Participants will explore themes related to science, heritage, arts, and performance, while developing new skills and understanding the stories and traditions that shape the UAE and the world.

Abu Dhabi Libraries Summer Camp

From July 1 to August 27, the Abu Dhabi Libraries Summer Camp invites children aged 5-14 to enhance their creative thinking and practical skills. The program, available in both Arabic and English, features a variety of workshops and competitions. Activities include self-portrait drawing, mandala weaving, scrapbooking, tote bag design, and more.

Participants will engage in hands-on training that incorporates emerging technologies to boost creativity. The program will also include a fashion design challenge inspired by Project Runway, storytelling sessions, and cultural exchange activities. Additionally, the camp will promote local small businesses through dedicated activations, offering young participants insights into entrepreneurship.

The camp is organized in collaboration with several partners, including the Emirates Red Crescent, The Artisans House, Higher Colleges of Technology, Zayed University, Emirates Heritage Club, Youth Councils, and the Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority.

Saadiyat Cultural District Exploration

From July 6 to August 7, children aged 5-14 will embark on a journey through the Saadiyat Cultural District, exploring three prominent museums. The camp will cover themes such as flora and fauna, landscapes, movement, and colors, providing a creative framework for participants to understand their surroundings.

At the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi, children will learn about the origins of life and the natural forces shaping the planet. The Louvre Abu Dhabi will introduce them to human creativity through ancient and contemporary artworks, while Zayed National Museum will showcase around 1,500 objects spanning over 300,000 years of history. Campers will also visit teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi, where they can experience the intersection of art, technology, and imagination.

Legacy Camp

Running from July 6 to August 20 in Abu Dhabi and July 20 to August 20 in Al Ain, the Legacy Camp offers children aged 5-14 a chance to connect with the UAE’s living heritage. Participants will explore cultural and historic landmarks, including Qasr Al Hosn, where they can engage with Emirati heritage through guided explorations and workshops.

At the House of Artisans, children will learn traditional crafts, while Al Maqta’a Museum will introduce them to the emirate’s historic gateway through interactive activities. In Al Ain, the camp will focus on the stories and traditions that have shaped the UAE, fostering a deeper understanding of the nation’s identity.

Creative Arts and Performance

From July 6 to August 20, children can explore creativity at three cultural sites: the Art Studio at Manarat Al Saadiyat, the Children’s Art Centre at the Cultural Foundation, and Bait Al Khatt (House of Calligraphy). Participants will engage in painting, printmaking, textile art, and ceramics, developing their creative skills while experimenting with various techniques.

The program will also introduce storytelling and Arabic calligraphy, allowing children to work with traditional tools and materials, thereby enhancing their connection to culture.

From July 12 to August 28, Bait Al Oud and the Cultural Foundation will host a camp focused on music, movement, dance, and storytelling. Participants will discover rhythm and build confidence through collaborative performances, culminating in a showcase of their work.

Instrument-Making and Board Games

From July 12 to August 5, a camp will teach children aged 5-14 the art of traditional instrument-making, specifically miniature oud models. Participants will gain basic musical knowledge, combining theory and practice to enhance their creativity.

An interdisciplinary camp will run from July 13 to August 13 at various locations, including the Abu Dhabi Children’s Library and the Children’s Art Centre. This program will explore artistic disciplines and cultural identity through hands-on workshops.

Additionally, from July 13 to 24, a camp at Delma Museum will focus on the island’s maritime heritage and biodiversity, while from August 11 to 21, the Louvre Abu Dhabi will host a camp where children can explore the history of board games. Participants will play traditional Emirati games and create their own board games, blending creativity and critical thinking.
