L.O.L. Surprise! Celebrates 10th Anniversary with New Live-Action Series “The Next Headliner”

To commemorate this occasion, MGA Entertainment is launching a new live-action scripted series titled L.O.L. Surprise! The Next Headliner. He noted that while the brand has previously focused on animated stories and unscripted content, there is now a desire to explore longer narratives that prominently feature music. Hackbarth stated, “L.O.L. has evolved from being a toy brand into being a full-on franchise over the last 10 years.”
Target Audience and Family Appeal
The series is primarily aimed at children aged 8 to 12, but Hackbarth indicated that it is designed to appeal to a broader audience, including parents and older siblings. He remarked on the nostalgia factor for teenagers who grew up with L.O.L. Surprise! dolls, saying, “They remember L.O.L. when they were kids. They may not be buying it as much today, but they still remember the brand.”
The show will also feature a surprise Grammy-winning global music sensation who will mentor the performers throughout their journey. While Hackbarth refrained from disclosing the identity of this special guest, he assured that the individual would be a globally recognized figure fitting into the show’s music-centric theme.
Cast and Production Team
The cast includes talented individuals who excel in acting, singing, and dancing, such as Giselle Torres, Indi Star, Journey Montana Binns, Kate Mina Lin, and Olivia Taylor Cohen. The series is produced in collaboration with London Alley, a Vice Media company, with Corinne Marshall serving as the writer-showrunner. Chell Stephen, known for his work on Riverdale and Nurses, will direct the series. Each episode will feature original music composed by Demitri Lerios, with a full soundtrack album set to release alongside the season finale.

The anniversary festivities will kick off on July 7, a date cleverly dubbed “7/07 Day,” which represents the upside-down spelling of “L.O.L.” The global franchise, which has generated over $7 billion in retail sales, will host the L.O.L. Surprise! Music Festival, a yearlong celebration inspired by the vibrant culture of music festivals.
Hackbarth explained the rationale behind the music theme, stating, “We were seeing all of the kind of cultural buzz that music festivals have. They become the central hub for culture, and kids aspire to that.” The celebration will include artist doll collaborations, new product launches, original entertainment, live experiences, and evolved doll designs.
Collaborations and New Product Lines
Among the exciting new products are collectible L.O.L. Surprise! Music Festival Headliners Tots and O.M.G. Music Festival Fashion Dolls, inspired by global music stars Jennie and Rosalía. These dolls will feature designs reminiscent of the artists’ most iconic performances. The Music Festival Headliners Tots will be packaged in heart-shaped balls, complete with a keychain and artist mini poster. Additionally, MGA has teased that there is still one mystery headliner yet to be announced.
Other new offerings will include music festival-inspired Tots representing various genres, storytelling playsets, and a tour bus playset that transforms into a performance stage. MGA is also expanding its licensed product extensions to include collaborations with popular franchises such as Harry Potter, SpongeBob SquarePants, and Dr. Seuss.
New Designs and In-Person Activations
For the first time since the brand’s inception, MGA will introduce new doll face sculpts to keep the brand fresh and relevant. Hackbarth noted the importance of evolving the brand to meet the changing preferences of children over the past decade.
The anniversary celebration will also feature a large-scale activation at Lollapalooza, designed for fans, families, and collectors. Hackbarth remarked on the significance of this event, stating, “There’s nothing more fitting than bringing L.O.L. to Lollapalooza; it’s right there in the name.” The activation aims to provide fans with a unique experience that connects them to the brand in new and exciting ways.
MGA’s anniversary plans also include special promotions on 7/07 Day, with select products available for $7.07, and a sweepstakes offering prizes such as toys and concert tickets.
L.O.L. Surprise! has maintained its popularity over the years by continually delivering surprises and innovative experiences.
