Dubai Customs Strengthens Airport Operations for 3 Million Passengers During Peak Summer Travel Season
Dubai Customs has enhanced its operational readiness in anticipation of a surge in passenger traffic, with approximately three million travelers expected to transit through Dubai’s airports in the first half of July. This initiative aims to ensure a seamless travel experience during the peak summer season.
Integrated Operational Plans
The preparations are guided by a comprehensive operational plan designed to facilitate smooth passenger flow and provide a fast, secure travel experience. This effort aligns with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, reinforcing Dubai’s status as a premier global destination for tourism and business. The initiative reflects the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai.
Coordination meetings between Dubai Customs and strategic partners at Dubai Airports have been instrumental in refining operational strategies. These discussions focused on enhancing readiness and ensuring efficient passenger movement during the busy season, accommodating the ongoing increase in visitor numbers while adhering to the highest international service standards.
Advanced Screening Systems
Dubai Customs operates 19 advanced baggage-screening systems and 77 detection and inspection systems throughout the various halls and terminals of Dubai’s airports. These systems are designed to improve handling capacity, expedite inspection processes, and uphold top-tier security and safety standards, ensuring operational efficiency even during peak travel periods.
In a bid to further optimize inspection operations, Dubai Customs has successfully reduced baggage screening times in the manual inspection area of the arrivals halls. Bags are now processed through screening devices in just seven seconds, significantly decreasing waiting times and enhancing passenger flow while maintaining high levels of accuracy and customs security.
Passenger Awareness Initiatives
To further assist travelers, Dubai Customs has developed a guidance booklet detailing items permitted for entry into the UAE and the conditions for customs exemptions. According to the guide, passengers can bring gifts valued up to AED 3,000 without incurring customs duties, provided these items are personal, limited in quantity, and not intended for commercial use. Customs duties will apply to any quantities or values that exceed these limits.
Enhancing Pet Inspection Services
In addition to these measures, Dubai Customs is collaborating with Dubai Airports and relevant authorities to establish dedicated pet inspection rooms in Terminals 1, 2, and 3. This initiative aims to create a well-equipped environment for efficient veterinary inspections, thereby improving services for passengers traveling with pets.
Khalid Ahmed, Director of the Passenger Operations Department at Dubai Customs, stated that preparations for the summer travel season commenced early. The integrated operational plans were developed in collaboration with strategic partners to accommodate the anticipated rise in passenger volumes while ensuring smooth movement across all passenger halls at Dubai airports.
Investment in Technology and Infrastructure
Ahmed emphasized that Dubai Customs is committed to investing in its operational infrastructure. The deployment of the latest smart technologies and the enhancement of field team capabilities are pivotal in keeping pace with the rapid growth in passenger traffic. This approach allows Dubai Customs to provide proactive services that improve the overall passenger experience while maintaining stringent customs security.
The initiative to develop dedicated pet inspection rooms is part of Dubai Customs’ ongoing commitment to enhance service delivery and cater to a broader range of travelers. This project aligns with international best practices, and efforts are underway to fulfill all technical and regulatory requirements ahead of its launch.
Khalid Ahmed noted that achieving a baggage-screening processing time of seven seconds in the manual inspection area showcases the efficiency of the modern systems employed by Dubai Customs. He assured that the acceleration of procedures does not compromise security; instead, it enhances inspection efficiency and provides passengers with a quicker, smoother experience.
Dubai Customs remains dedicated to implementing initiatives and development projects that improve the passenger experience, support the objectives of the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, and solidify Dubai’s position as a leading global destination for tourism and business.
