The 33-year-old shares insights into her life, which now involves splitting her time between the UK and Germany, where her husband, Scottish professional footballer Oliver Burke, plays for 1. FC Union Berlin. McKenna expresses her joy about motherhood, stating, “My life’s changed so much! I can’t remember life without him,” referring to her son Landan, born in 2024. She describes him as an “extremely lively” 18-month-old who is friendly and sociable.
Since welcoming Landan after an emotional IVF journey, McKenna has gained a significant following on social media, where she shares her experiences as a new mother. She notes that her pregnancy journey attracted followers who were curious about her cravings, which included a penchant for orange-flavored snacks.
McKenna emphasizes the supportive community she has built online, where followers exchange advice and encouragement. She admits her German language skills are still basic, but she appreciates the vibrant atmosphere of the city. “I like Berlin. It’s cool. And I love watching Ollie thrive in the Bundesliga,” she adds.
Despite the challenges of being a new mother in a foreign country, McKenna remains hands-on with her parenting. She acknowledges the difficulties of not having her family nearby for support, especially during the early days of motherhood. “I wish that my family were there through that,” she reflects, recalling a particularly tough moment when Burke had to train shortly after Landan’s birth.
Looking ahead, McKenna expresses her desire to expand her family. “Oh, 100%,” she laughs, although she is currently focused on her music career. Having launched her musical journey with the album Story of Me in 2019, she aims to break into the country music scene, inspired by artists like Kacey Musgraves and Ella Langley.
McKenna acknowledges that her past experiences in reality television have shaped public perception of her. “There’s been this massive public perception of me for being a bit… crazy,” she admits. However, she is determined to shift that narrative through her music, which she plans to make more personal and candid.
With a new single on the horizon and an album expected next year, McKenna is excited about the future. She believes there is a gap in the UK market for female country artists and is eager to fill that space. “I think I could be that person, I really do. Watch this space!” she concludes.
