Maclean George arrived in Dubai with aspirations of becoming a professional football player. However, his journey led him to discover a city that fueled even greater ambitions.
Early Aspirations
Maclean George, originally from Ghana, dreamed of becoming the president of his country as a child. At 20, he made the pivotal decision to relocate to Dubai to pursue a career in football. He had previously played in local leagues in Ghana but found limited opportunities for professional advancement.
George was motivated by someone he knew to make the move to Dubai, arriving on November 12, 2021. However, upon his arrival, he faced an unexpected challenge: the individual who encouraged him to pursue football ceased communication. Undeterred by this setback, George resolved to stay in Dubai and not return to Ghana.
Embracing Challenges
Initially, George obtained a work visa from a cleaning company and began working in various locations across Dubai. Despite the difficulties he encountered, he maintained his belief in his dreams. One of the sources of inspiration for him was the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC).
George frequently visited DIFC, often three times a week, finding it a source of motivation. He remarked on how Dubai’s transformation into a global city exemplified the potential for greatness. He felt a deep connection to the city’s narrative of success.
He also expressed admiration for Downtown Dubai, noting how the infrastructure and maintenance of the area fascinated him. He believed that understanding these aspects would be crucial if he were to one day lead Ghana.
A Moment of Inspiration
In 2022, George encountered a poster of UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan alongside Pope Francis during a visit to the Vatican in 2016. Standing next to the image, he reflected on the improbability of ever meeting the UAE President. This moment became a symbolic representation of his aspirations.
Dreams Realized
Four years later, George’s imagined handshake with Sheikh Mohamed became a reality. In March of this year, while visiting Dubai Mall, he unexpectedly encountered the UAE President and His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai. The moment was captured on video, which quickly gained widespread attention.
George recalled the excitement of that encounter, emphasizing how significant it was for him. The interaction resonated with many in the UAE, serving as a powerful reminder that dreams can indeed come true.
Entrepreneurial Journey
Today, at 25, George is the founder of a luxury athleisure brand named MACLUX. He launched the company using the savings he accumulated while working as a cleaner. His entrepreneurial spirit was ignited by a desire to help others, particularly when friends would ask him for financial assistance.
After exploring various avenues for additional income, George decided to fully commit to entrepreneurship. He expressed a belief that he was destined for greatness and refused to let others’ opinions limit his ambitions.
In 2024, he officially started his company, focusing on a limited collection while collaborating with friends and suppliers from Turkey and China. He was determined to avoid loans from friends or banks.
Future Aspirations
Looking ahead, George aims to expand his brand and diversify its offerings, with the ultimate goal of leading a global company. His motivation stems from a desire to positively impact others’ lives, particularly those who face financial hardships.
He articulated a commitment to helping others, drawing from his own experiences of struggle. His journey in Dubai has reinforced his belief that anyone can rise from their circumstances with perseverance and determination.
George hopes that sharing his story will inspire others, particularly those in service roles, to pursue their dreams without being constrained by external limitations.
