Dubai: 21-Year-Old Callum Mughal Transforms from Student to AI Entrepreneur in the Heart of Innovation
Dubai has become a hub for innovation, attracting young talent from around the world. One such individual is Callum Mughal, a 21-year-old British expat who made the bold decision to relocate to Dubai with his family seven months ago. This move, he asserts, has proven to be one of the best choices he has made.
Mughal, a computer science student from Birmingham, has always had a keen interest in technology. He recognized the significant impact artificial intelligence (AI) would have on various industries. With a desire to build solutions and tackle real-world problems, he began exploring locations that prioritize AI development. While Silicon Valley was the first name that came to mind, Dubai quickly followed.
Despite never having visited Dubai before, Mughal felt a strong inclination towards the city. He discussed the idea with his family, and they collectively decided to make the move. Reflecting on this transition, he stated, “Honestly, it’s been one of the better decisions I’ve taken.”
Establishing DaitaFix
Today, Mughal and his 23-year-old brother, Faron, co-manage DaitaFix, a company focused on helping businesses adapt to the evolving landscape of information search in the AI era. Traditional search engine optimization (SEO) methods are becoming less effective as more individuals turn to AI platforms for quicker and more convenient solutions. Mughal emphasized that many businesses are not optimized for these new AI platforms, which is where DaitaFix steps in.
Mughal believes that Dubai offers an ideal environment for their venture. He noted a distinct energy in the city compared to the UK, describing it as a place where community spirit thrives. “Everyone is more polite and wanting the best for you. It also feels like there’s no judgment… everyone’s equal,” he remarked.
Since the decision to move was his, Mughal felt a strong sense of responsibility to ensure its success. He was pleasantly surprised to find that the drive and ambition he possessed were not isolating experiences in Dubai. Whether networking at events or engaging in casual conversations at the beach, he found a unique blend of ambition and community in the city.
“Being in that environment where everyone is moving, and putting one leg in front of the other, it’s a really positive experience,” he stated.
The Influence of Sheikh Mohammed
Mughal’s philosophy aligns with the well-known quote by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai: “In the UAE, in Dubai, I don’t care if you are a gazelle or a lion – when you wake up, you better start running.” This saying resonates with him, emphasizing the importance of staying hungry, passionate, and consistent, regardless of one’s stage in business.
A Shift to Full-Time Entrepreneurship
Initially, Mughal started DaitaFix as a part-time endeavor while continuing his university studies. However, he soon realized that his passion lay in entrepreneurship. “I loved doing what I was doing and I would wake up ready to attack the day. I was excited for it, so I swapped and now I’m studying part-time and doing the business full-time,” he explained.
His brother Faron has been an invaluable partner in this journey. Sharing a similar passion for technology and assisting businesses in transitioning to the AI age, their close bond has been instrumental in their success. Mughal humorously noted their strong connection, stating, “He’s two years older than me, but we’re incredibly close; we’re basically twins.”
Despite having extended family in the UK, the Mughal family made the collective decision to relocate to Dubai, recognizing that remaining in the UK would limit their growth opportunities.
Dubai’s Future-Focused Mindset
From the moment he arrived in Dubai, Mughal observed the city’s commitment to innovation. The UAE government’s announcement in May regarding the adoption of Agentic AI in 50% of government services and operations did not surprise him. “One thing about Dubai is that it moves fast; you just have to look at how the city runs. When I came here and saw the autonomous cars on the roads, it was a massive indicator for me that this place is focused on innovation and technology,” he remarked.
Mughal views Dubai as the center of innovation, a place where ideas are tested and implemented. As he continues to build his company and shape his future, he adheres to a personal motto: “Nothing will change if nothing changes.” This mindset drives him to pursue his dreams in a city that has taught him the importance of action.
