Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film grossed $43 million on Friday alone. If estimates hold, Spider-Man: Brand New Day will secure the third-best domestic second weekend in history. By Sunday, the film’s North American total is expected to reach $653 million, marking the highest 10-day domestic sum ever recorded.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens currently holds the record for the best domestic second weekend, having earned $149.2 million in 2015. Avengers: Endgame follows closely with $147.3 million during its second weekend in April 2019. The previous Spider-Man film, Spider-Man: No Way Home, set Sony’s record with $84.5 million in December 2021, although it faced minimal competition during its release.
Record-Breaking Launch
Spider-Man: Brand New Day achieved a record-setting launch, becoming the highest-grossing film in its first week in domestic box office history. It surpassed the $500 million mark in North America within just seven days, outpacing Endgame, which reached that milestone in eight days.
The film also set records for the best domestic box office sums for both Monday and Tuesday. It became the second-fastest film to cross the billion-dollar mark globally, achieving this feat in six days, second only to Endgame. Additionally, it set records for Thursday previews and its opening Friday domestic sum, marking Sony’s best debut frame.

Competitive Box Office Landscape
Following a fierce competition with Endgame during its opening weekend, Spider-Man: Brand New Day emerged with the largest domestic opening weekend ever, grossing $360 million. This figure surpassed Endgame’s $357.1 million domestic start, although Endgame still holds the record for the highest global launch at $1.2 billion.
The film features a strong cast, including Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal, and Mark Ruffalo, and tells the story of Marvel’s iconic hero facing a lonely existence before an invisible enemy targets him. Produced by Marvel Studios and Amy Pascal, the film carries a production budget of $225 million.
Other Box Office Contenders
In its fourth weekend, The Odyssey, from Universal, is holding steady in second place with an estimated $30.5 million, bringing its domestic total to $460.1 million. Christopher Nolan’s mythological epic crossed the billion-dollar mark globally, becoming the director’s third film to achieve this milestone.
Universal also claims the weekend’s third spot with the romantic comedy One Night Only, which is expected to earn $6 million from 3,012 North American screens. The film has received a B+ CinemaScore from audiences and stars Monica Barbaro and Callum Turner.
New Releases and Upcoming Films
Super Troopers 3 is projected to open in fifth place with an estimated $3.9 million from 2,760 North American screens. The film has received a B- CinemaScore. The franchise previously saw success with Super Troopers 2, which opened to $15.1 million in 2018.
Toy Story 5 is also performing well, occupying fourth place with around $4.1 million, bringing its domestic total to $470.5 million.
Additionally, Eli Roth’s slasher film Ice Cream Man is expected to debut with $2.1 million from 1,090 screens. The film has received a low score of 28 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
A24’s Tony, which tells the story of a young Anthony Bourdain, is off to a promising start with an estimated $400,000 from six North American screens, holding a 95 percent approval rating from critics.
