In a thrilling development for the city’s entertainment scene, Dubai will soon welcome its very own version of the iconic Las Vegas Sphere. This announcement brings excitement to residents and tourists alike, as MGM Resorts plans to bring a mini version of the renowned structure to The Island, a Las Vegas-inspired hub in Dubai. Here’s everything you need to know about the Dubai Sphere project.
The Dubai Sphere: A Smaller but Equally Compelling Experience

The Dubai Sphere will be located in the center of three luxury hotels—MGM Grand, Bellagio, and Aria—on The Island. While it won’t be as large as the original Las Vegas Sphere, which boasts a capacity of 18,600 seats, the Dubai version will have a more intimate setup with seating for 300 guests. Despite its smaller size, MGM Resorts CEO Bill Hornbuckle assured that it will be “equally compelling” and offer a unique entertainment experience.

The venue will feature a mini showroom showcasing the history of Dubai, accompanied by stunning visual effects. The Sphere’s immersive 3D light and sound shows will create an unforgettable experience for up to 300 guests at a time.
A $2 Billion Project in the Works
MGM Resorts’ $2 billion Dubai project has been in development since 2017 but has seen significant progress only this year, with the construction contract recently awarded. Approved by the emirate’s ruler, the project includes three MGM Resorts brands—MGM Grand, Bellagio, and Aria—centered around the Dubai Sphere.
While the original plans included the construction of a 110-meter-high entertainment tower, the Sphere itself will be a more modest 112 meters tall, offering a spectacular show within a smaller, intimate setting.
Telling Dubai’s Story
The Dubai Sphere will take visitors on a visual journey through the city’s remarkable transformation from desert to a modern “megatropolis.” CEO Bill Hornbuckle expressed his admiration for Dubai’s rapid development, calling it “Las Vegas on steroids.” The Sphere will capture this fascinating story, offering a unique perspective on the city’s growth over the past few decades.
Non-Gaming Complex with Potential for Change
Currently, the Dubai Sphere is part of a non-gaming hotel and entertainment complex, but that could change in the future. Hornbuckle mentioned that while the UAE is slowly opening up to gaming, there are no official plans for a casino in Dubai yet. However, the possibility remains on the horizon, especially as gaming becomes more socially accepted across the region. MGM has already applied for a casino license in Abu Dhabi, so a similar move could eventually happen in Dubai.
The Future of Entertainment in Dubai
While there’s no confirmed opening date for the Dubai Sphere, anticipation is already building. The project promises to elevate Dubai’s status as a global entertainment hub, offering visitors and residents a one-of-a-kind experience. The combination of luxury hotels, immersive shows, and world-class entertainment venues like the Sphere will continue to solidify Dubai’s reputation as a top destination for both business and leisure.
