In a recent interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin confirmed that the British rock band plans to retire from recording new music after their 12th album. This news comes as the band prepares to release their 10th studio album, Moon Music, on October 4, 2024.

Martin emphasized that Coldplay is committed to this limit, humorously noting, “Less is more… for some of our critics, even less would be even more!” He explained that the decision to cap their discography at 12 albums was influenced by musical heroes like The Beatles and Bob Marley, who left a limited but impactful body of work. Martin remarked that this approach helps maintain high-quality music: “Having that limit means that the quality control is high right now.”

The band’s last album is expected to be released in 2025. After that, Martin hinted that while Coldplay will stop producing new albums, they may continue touring and possibly work on collaborative projects.
Coldplay is scheduled to perform in Mumbai in January 2025, marking their return to India after eight years since their 2016 Global Citizen Festival appearance. The current band lineup includes Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman, and Will Champion, with Phil Harvey as their manager.
