Scott Speedman Kicks Off Season 2 of “RJ Decker” with a “Dancing With the Stars” Crossover
Scott Speedman is back in action as RJ Decker in the second season of the ABC crime procedural, which launched with an exciting crossover episode featuring “Dancing With the Stars” (DWTS). The actor humorously noted to producers, “Just so you’re aware, I won’t be dancing,” as the show enlisted DWTS pros Jenna Johnson and Val Chmerkovskiy, along with Season 33 winner Joey Graziadei, for a unique case involving a flash mob.
The episode opened with a vibrant flash mob performance, where characters Kin (played by Kevin Rankin) and Catherine (Adelaide Clemens) participated, while Graziadei portrayed a pickpocket stealing from the audience. Unbeknownst to him, RJ Decker and the police were closely monitoring the situation, leading to another thrilling investigation for the ex-con turned private investigator.
A Big Opportunity for “RJ Decker”
Speedman expressed excitement about the crossover, calling it a “big” opportunity to attract new viewers to the show, which took over the post-DWTS timeslot from the network’s top drama series, “High Potential.” Following the dance-heavy opener, the episode shifted focus to RJ’s investigation into a series of robberies linked to an old acquaintance, which also brought the FBI into the mix.
As the season unfolds, RJ navigates a complicated relationship with his former flame, Emi (Jaina Lee Ortiz), after her father’s death. The two decide to remain friends, setting the stage for further developments in their relationship throughout the season. Speedman revealed that Season 2 is currently planned for seven episodes, with the possibility of an extension.
Guest Stars and New Dynamics
In addition to the crossover, Speedman highlighted the introduction of new dynamics, particularly with the FBI’s involvement, led by guest star Sasheer Zamata. He noted that this added a layer of complexity to RJ’s character, as he had to navigate the challenges posed by higher authority figures.
Looking ahead, Speedman expressed enthusiasm for the arrival of Beau Bridges, who will portray RJ’s father, adding another intriguing layer to the storyline. “It’s always good to throw RJ on his back foot,” Speedman remarked, emphasizing the character’s growth and challenges.
Fans of Speedman can also look forward to his return as Nick Marsh on “Grey’s Anatomy,” where he teased that he has some episodes coming up but remains uncertain about the direction of his character.
