Liam Lawson secures 10 points for Racing Bulls in Singapore but uncertain about 2027 seat

Liam Lawson’s impressive performance at the Singapore Grand Prix has left him with a mixed sense of achievement and uncertainty regarding his future with Racing Bulls. The New Zealander secured 10 points across both the Sprint and the main race, finishing fifth in the Sprint and eighth in the Grand Prix, but he remains unsure if this will be enough to secure his seat for the 2027 season.

Lawson’s weekend began with a solid qualifying session, where he narrowly avoided a chaotic final lap involving spinning McLarens to secure eighth place. His ability to navigate the tricky wet/dry conditions showcased his skill and composure, ultimately leading to a commendable fifth-place finish in the Sprint. In the Grand Prix, he executed key overtakes early on, allowing him to fend off challenges from competitors like Audi’s Nico Hulkenberg and Mercedes’ George Russell.

Reflecting on his performance, Lawson expressed pride in his team’s collective effort, stating, “Very happy and very proud of the team. It’s been a pretty intense few weeks and as a team we’ve scored in all three races.” However, he acknowledged that while he should have scored points in all three races, he is focused on continuing to perform well each weekend.

Despite his recent success, Lawson’s future remains uncertain. Racing Bulls Team Principal Alan Permane indicated that a decision regarding the team’s 2027 driver lineup would be made in the coming weeks. Lawson is competing against other contenders, including Formula 2’s Nikola Tsolov and Arvid Lindblad, both of whom have shown promise in their respective campaigns. Lindblad, in particular, has scored 38 points this season but has faced challenges in recent races, including a disappointing outing in Singapore.

As Lawson prepares for the next race in Austin, he is keen to build on his recent performances while addressing areas for improvement. “I need to review the procedure,” Lindblad remarked about his own struggles, highlighting the competitive nature of the sport and the pressure on young drivers to deliver consistent results.

With the stakes high and competition fierce, Lawson’s ability to maintain his form will be crucial as he aims to secure his place in the Racing Bulls lineup for the upcoming season. For more insights on the latest developments in Formula 1, visit Formula 1.
