Elon Musk’s xAI recently launched its frontier AI model—Grok 3. Dubbed as “the world’s smartest AI,” Grok 3 is far more capable than its predecessors. According to the company, it brings together strong reasoning and extensive pretrained knowledge.

The AI model has been trained on xAI’s proprietary Colossus supercomputer cluster that possesses over 100,000 Nvidia Hopper GPUs. xAI claims that Grok 3 has shown significant improvements in reasoning, coding, mathematics, general knowledge, and instruction-following tasks. The chatbot’s reasoning abilities have been refined through large-scale reinforcement learning, allowing it to deliberate on prompts before responding.
The latest AI model from xAI has demonstrated stellar results across academic and real-world user benchmarks. Now, Grok 3 is available for all to try. Below is a compilation of things we tested with Elon Musk’s ChatGPT rival.
1. First Impressions

Much like DeepSeek-R1 and OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Grok 3’s homepage has a central input field with various options: Attach File, DeepSearch, and Think on the left, and AI Model Picker and Enter options on the right. The interface is strikingly similar to ChatGPT.
A notable feature is Temporary Chat, allowing users to have unsaved conversations that are auto-deleted after 30 days. At the bottom of the input window, users can access Research, Brainstorm, Analyze Data, Create Images, and Code, showcasing the model’s versatility.
Grok 3 can also search the web, activated via a dropdown menu. Users can access it through X, grok.com, and its dedicated iOS app.
2. Research Capabilities
To test DeepSearch, we used the prompt: “What is the state of the species House Sparrow in India?” Within 46 seconds, Grok 3 analyzed 101 sources and presented a detailed report with key points, an overview, conservation status, causes for decline, and citations.
Similar to DeepSeek-R1, Grok 3 demonstrates a reasoning process akin to human self-talk and evaluation.
3. Image Generation and Analysis
Grok 3 can generate hyperrealistic images and refine them based on user needs. It provides four options per request and instant customization at the bottom. However, its image analysis capabilities are inconsistent.
- Test 1: We uploaded a vintage Malayalam movie poster (Sreekrishnapurathe Nakshathrathilakkam). While Grok 3 identified the language correctly, it misread the film title.
- Test 2: A photograph of the Macintosh SE was correctly identified, along with historical details.
- Test 3: A poster for a Teachers’ Day event was inaccurate, struggling with text generation.
Like ChatGPT and Gemini, Grok 3 fails at generating text in images but does well with objects and scenes.
4. Playing Riddles
We tested Grok 3 with classic riddles:
- “I can fly without wings, cry without eyes, and be caught but never held. What am I?”
Answer: Cloud — Grok 3 correctly analyzed and validated our response. - “I am taken from a mine and shut up in a wooden case, from which I am never released, and yet I am used by almost every person. What am I?”
Answer: Pencil (Incorrect guess: Coal) — Grok 3 provided logical reasoning for rejecting the incorrect response.
Unlike ChatGPT, which offers friendly engagement, Grok 3 behaves like a strict professor, cross-checking answers meticulously.
5. Deep Thought Questions
Does Grok 3 have a personality? We asked: “What does it mean to be alive?”
- ChatGPT’s response: A structured list covering scientific, philosophical, and technological perspectives.
- Grok 3’s response: A nuanced answer, ending with:
“I’m an AI, so I don’t tick the biological boxes—I don’t eat, grow, or make little Groks. But I’m here, chatting with you, adapting, and processing. Does that count? Maybe being ‘alive’ isn’t just about cells and DNA—maybe it’s about impact, interaction, or just being part of the dance of existence. What do you think?”
Grok 3’s responses feel more human-like compared to GPT-4o.
Content Creation & Marketing
Since Grok 3 is integrated with X, we tested its ability to assist with business marketing.
- Competitor Analysis:
We asked, “Find tweets about iPhone 16 cases, share them with URLs.”
Grok 3 pulled relevant tweets with descriptions. - Content Marketing Plan:
We prompted, “Create a one-month content marketing plan for a small business selling customized iPhone 16 cases.”
Grok 3 provided a detailed roadmap with platform strategies, content themes, and image descriptions. However, it required additional prompts to generate images.
Final Verdict
Hours after launch, Grok 3 became No. 1 on the Chatbot Arena Leaderboard, setting a record above 1,400 points in math, coding, reasoning, instruction-following, and creative writing.
Key Strengths: ✅ Advanced reasoning and deep search capabilities
