LA28 Olympics unveil official slogan ‘Stars Align’ ahead of 2028 Games

Organisers of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic and Paralympic Games have officially unveiled their slogan, “Stars Align,” a phrase designed to encapsulate the intersection of rigorous athletic preparation and the vibrant culture of the entertainment capital. The announcement was made during a promotional campaign launch that featured a dynamic 60-second video set to the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ hit “Can’t Stop,” showcasing iconic Southern California landmarks such as the Hollywood Sign and Griffith Observatory.

According to LA28 Chief Marketing Officer Alex Merchan, the slogan aims to redefine contemporary notions of destiny. “Stars Align is not based on luck. It’s grounded in effort and commitment,” Merchan stated in an interview with Reuters. He elaborated that the phrase signifies the moment when preparation meets opportunity, leading to extraordinary outcomes.

Community Engagement and Local Identity

In keeping with the tradition of previous Olympic mottos—like Tokyo 2020’s “United by Emotion” and Paris 2024’s “Games Wide Open”—LA28 seeks to blend global sporting significance with local identity. Merchan emphasized that the slogan is inclusive, extending beyond the estimated 15,000 athletes to encompass the local workforce, volunteers, and small businesses involved through initiatives like the “Local Authentic” vendor program. “We will celebrate those athletes, but we can’t lose sight that these Games will be delivered by all the stars that take part in bringing them about,” he noted.

A Milestone in the Road to 2028

The rollout of the slogan marks a significant milestone in the ongoing commercial and cultural campaign leading up to the 2028 Games. Future initiatives will include a domestic torch relay route across all 50 states and the unveiling of the official mascot. “This is just the spark, our first coming out of the gate,” Merchan remarked, hinting at more announcements to come as the Games approach.

The Olympic Games are set to commence on July 14, 2028, followed by the Paralympics on August 15. As excitement builds, the LA28 slogan serves as an invitation for the community to engage early in what promises to be a historic celebration of sport and culture.
