RTA Upgrades 7km Al Warqa’a 1 Road, Enhancing Traffic Flow by 30 Percent
Significant Traffic Expansion Works Completed
The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced the successful completion of substantial traffic expansion works on Al Warqa’a 1 Street. This project delivers a 7-kilometer upgrade in both directions, extending between Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road and Ras Al Khor Road. The enhancements are designed to improve efficiency within Dubai roads, facilitating smoother daily mobility for residents.
Conversion of Roundabouts to Smart Intersections
A notable feature of this project involved the conversion of four roundabouts into smart signalized intersections. This transformation is expected to improve traffic flow by as much as 30 percent. These changes are part of RTA’s long-term strategy to bolster road network efficiency, ultimately aiming to uplift residents’ overall quality of life.
Comprehensive Supporting Infrastructure Added
In addition to the junction upgrades, the comprehensive traffic expansion works included a substantial supporting infrastructure package. Key components of this project consisted of:
- Stormwater Drainage Networks: The construction of advanced drainage systems spanning 6,600 linear meters.
- Street Lighting: The installation of 324 modern lighting poles to enhance visibility across the area.
- Parking Facilities: The introduction of 111 new parking spaces to accommodate increased vehicular traffic.
Furthermore, pedestrian pathways were developed over a total area of 41,000 square meters. This effort significantly enhances traffic movement while ensuring improved safety for all road users.
Director’s Insights on Infrastructure Development
Hamad Al Shehhi, Director of Roads at the Traffic and Roads Agency, shared insights into the ongoing developments in Al Warqa’a. He stated that “this project builds on works completed in June 2025, which included the construction of direct entry and exit points to Al Warqa’a from Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road to facilitate smoother access.”
Al Shehhi emphasized that the project also covers improvements on 13th Street in Al Warqa’a 1, extending approximately 8 kilometers in both directions. These enhancements serve not only residents but also users of local schools, underlining RTA’s commitment to developing a reliable internal road network.
Commitment to Integrated Infrastructure Development
Further emphasizing RTA’s commitment, Al Shehhi remarked, “RTA is firmly committed to developing integrated infrastructure encompassing road networks, street lighting, and stormwater drainage systems, in line with Dubai’s population and urban growth targets.” This dedication aligns with the aspirations of residents for an advanced urban environment that enhances daily living.
Additionally, ongoing projects in the Al Warqa’a area include further upgrades to internal road networks in Al Warqa’a 3 and Al Warqa’a 4. These works encompass road paving, the development of pedestrian pathways and pavements, new parking spaces, and cycling tracks.
Enhancing Connectivity and Sustainable Mobility Options
The enhancements aim to boost connectivity with cycling routes in neighboring areas while also supporting alternative and sustainable mobility options. The RTA acknowledges the evolving needs of the community as it seeks to provide comprehensive transport solutions that align with Dubai’s growth.
Engaging with the Community
Last October, RTA conducted an interactive session with residents of Mirdif and Al Warqa’a to provide updates on the Dubai Metro Blue Line project. This session Fostered dialogue around various RTA initiatives aimed at improving the road network and enhancing resident satisfaction with daily mobility.
Key topics during the session included forthcoming traffic diversions planned in Al Warqa’a and Mirdif throughout the different phases of ongoing projects. This engagement approach reflects RTA’s commitment to keep local residents informed, actively seeking their feedback to develop practical solutions that elevate quality of life.
Through these continued upgrades and community outreach, RTA remains focused on leading Dubai’s transport infrastructure into a sustainable and efficient future.
