Apple is reportedly working on a new wall-mounted smart home display, which could hit the market as early as March 2025. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the six-inch, tablet-like device is designed for easy mounting on walls or for use on tabletops with a stand. It may even have a model that attaches to a robotic arm, allowing users to tilt and spin the screen for flexible viewing angles. This device would offer a streamlined way to control smart home features such as lights, security systems, and thermostats.
Features of Apple’s Smart Display
The rumored smart display will have a six-inch screen with thick borders, a built-in camera, speakers, and a rechargeable battery. Apple reportedly plans to integrate Siri and Apple Intelligence, enabling voice-controlled management of HomeKit-compatible devices. Users will need an iPhone to complete the initial setup, but afterward, the device should function independently. Gurman describes the new operating system as a blend of Apple Watch’s OS and the recently launched iPhone StandBy mode.
Mounting and Design
Apple is said to be experimenting with various base options, including wall mounts, tabletop stands, and a version with extra speakers akin to Google’s Pixel Tablet dock. The display will also feature proximity sensors to adjust the screen’s content based on the user’s distance, making interactions more intuitive.
Building Apple’s Smart Home Ecosystem
This rumored smart display could help Apple expand its presence in the smart home market, where it already has a foundation with HomeKit-compatible devices. Bloomberg’s report suggests that Apple is planning to launch more smart home products, including a potential smart home camera in 2026. With this device, Apple may compete with Amazon’s Echo Hub, offering a similar all-in-one interface for managing smart home devices.
