Dubai Air Show 2025 Sees 176 Engine Deals as Repeat Business Leads
Significant Agreements at the Dubai Air Show
The Dubai Air Show has witnessed a surge in engine deals, with a total of 176 agreements announced, highlighting continued strong interest in advanced aircraft technologies. Notably, various airlines have secured significant contracts for Rolls-Royce’s innovative Trent engine family, underscoring a positive outlook for the industry.
Air Europa Expands Fleet with Rolls-Royce Engines
Air Europa has committed to acquiring 80 Trent XWB-84 engines to power 40 Airbus A350-900 aircraft. Ewen McDonald, Chief Customer Officer for Civil Aerospace at Rolls-Royce, noted the importance of this deal, stating, “Air Europa is already a valued customer, so it’s extremely exciting to deepen that relationship as we welcome them into the Trent XWB family.”
He added, “The continued popularity of the Airbus A350-900 powered by the Trent XWB-84 is important to us, and we look forward to working with Air Europa as they embark on their fleet renewal.”
AviLease Joins LessorCare+ Service
AviLease has signed on to the newly-launched LessorCare+ service, enhancing its operational capabilities. Rob Watson, President of Civil Aerospace at Rolls-Royce, remarked, “It’s testament to the quality of our offering and the strength of our partnerships that we are seeing AviLease come on board with LessorCare+ at Dubai.”
He emphasized the growing demand among lessors for in-depth insights into asset management, stating that Rolls-Royce is well-positioned to provide this critical data. In addition, Rolls-Royce is initiating a £1 billion investment in its modern Trent engines aimed at improving durability by an average of 80%, with significant upgrades expected by 2025.
Emirates Expands its Fleet and MRO Capabilities
Emirates Airlines has secured 16 Trent XWB-84 engines to support 8 Airbus A350-900 aircraft, alongside plans to join the Rolls-Royce global Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) network in 2027 for the Trent 900 series. Paul Keenan, Director of Commercial Aviation Aftermarket Operations at Rolls-Royce, expressed enthusiasm for this partnership, stating, “Today’s announcement marks another milestone in our journey to significantly increase our global MRO capacity and capability by 2030.”
He further elaborated, “Our global network combines a strong mix of Rolls-Royce owned facilities, joint ventures, and strategic collaborations with industry partners. We are delighted to welcome Emirates to that mix ahead of the new facility opening in 2027.”
Ethiopian Airlines and Etihad Airways Opt for Trent Engines
Ethiopian Airlines has announced its order for 12 Trent XWB-84 engines, set to power 6 Airbus A350-900 aircraft. Additionally, Etihad Airways has made a substantial commitment, securing 30 Trent 7000 engines for 15 Airbus A330 Neo jets, 14 Trent XWB-97 engines for 7 Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, and 20 Trent XWB-97 engines to support 10 Airbus A350F freighters.
Rob Watson commented on the strength of the Middle Eastern market, stating, “Our Middle Eastern customers continue to perform strongly on the global stage, and we are investing in our engines and services to match that ambition.” He noted that upcoming enhancements to the Trent XWB-97 will double time on wing in challenging conditions from 2028.
Silk Way West Airlines Invests in Trent Engines
Silk Way West Airlines is also part of the latest agreements, having secured 4 Trent XWB-97 engines for 2 Airbus A350F freighters. The Trent 7000, introduced in late 2018, powers the Airbus A330neo and has achieved over three million flight hours, demonstrating its reliability and sustainable performance.
The Trent XWB-84 is recognized as a leading engine in its class, designed specifically for the Airbus A350. It boasts the lowest fuel consumption for a widebody engine and is favored by many of the world’s most profitable airlines.
Proven Track Record of Trent Engines
The Trent XWB-97 has substantiated its reliability and durability over more than seven years of service and three million flying hours. It has already undergone two out of three phases of durability enhancements, resulting in a 60% increase in time on wing, with the final phase set to further improve performance significantly.
