Men’s and women’s volleyball matches will be held at the base of this 330-metre (1,083-foot) monument. Nearly 13,000 fans will gather at the temporary Eiffel Tower Stadium on the Champ de Mars, a popular spot for picnics and fireworks displays.

Thousands of athletes will parade through the heart of Paris on boats along the Seine River in the opening ceremony at sunset on July 26. The 3.7-mile route will showcase the beauty and grandeur of the French capital.

Two massive cranes were used overnight to lift and mount the 30-ton structure between the first and second floors of the Eiffel Tower. The Olympic rings will be illuminated every night with 100,000 LED bulbs throughout the duration of the Games, including the Paralympics starting on August 28.
