Improved Comfort for Delivery Riders
Dubai has introduced 40 air-conditioned rest areas designed specifically for delivery riders. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced this initiative to enhance road safety and improve working conditions for thousands of riders across the city.
Addressing Challenges Faced by Riders
Dubai’s roads are busy with food, grocery, and parcel deliveries happening daily. Long hours under the sun can be exhausting, and having a comfortable space to rest can make a significant difference.
This initiative aims to:
- Improve rider well-being by offering shaded, air-conditioned spaces.
- Reduce the risk of fatigue-related accidents.
- Encourage compliance with traffic rules for safer roads.
Key Locations of Rest Areas
The locations were chosen based on demand for delivery services, using data analysis and coordination with delivery companies.
- Jumeirah & Coastal Areas: Umm Suqeim (Jumeirah 3), Al Wasl Road (Jumeirah)
- Downtown & Business Hubs: Business Bay, Dubai World Trade Centre, Al Satwa
- Western Dubai: Hessa Street, Barsha Heights, Al Barsha, The Greens
- Central & Older Districts: Al Karama, Riggat Al Buteen, Oud Metha, Al Rashidiya
- Eastern & Northern Dubai: Nad Al Hamar, Al Nahda, Al Jaddaf, Al Garhoud, Mirdif

Growing Demand for Delivery Services
By mid-2024, 2,535 companies were operating 46,600 delivery bikes across Dubai. As demand for quick deliveries grows, ensuring rider safety and comfort becomes even more essential.
Part of Dubai’s Traffic Safety Strategy
This initiative aligns with Dubai’s Traffic Safety Strategy, which aims for ‘Zero Fatalities’ on the roads. By providing proper rest facilities, the city is taking a step toward protecting both delivery riders and other road users.
Features of the Rest Areas
Each facility is designed to:
- Reduce heat exposure while maintaining visibility on the roads.
- Provide air-conditioned seating for up to 10 riders, depending on the location.
- Include designated motorcycle parking spaces for convenience.
Dubai’s proactive approach ensures a safer and healthier working environment for delivery riders while enhancing overall traffic safety.
