Swachh Bharat Mission: The World’s Biggest Movement
On the 10th anniversary of the Swachh Bharat Mission, Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the occasion by calling it the world’s biggest and most successful movement of the century. Speaking at an event, Modi praised the selfless commitment of crores of Indians who have embraced this mission over the past decade.
Reflecting Public Participation and Leadership
Prime Minister Modi highlighted the people’s participation and public leadership that made the Swachh Bharat Mission a success. He stated, “The Swachh Bharat Mission is a symbol of the selfless commitment of crores of Indians, and in the last 10 years, crores of Indians have adopted this mission and made it a part of their lives.”
A Legacy for Future Generations
Modi further emphasized that the Swachh Bharat Mission will be remembered for centuries. He predicted that historians would recognize it as a major achievement when they study India’s progress in the 21st century. “The more successful the Swachh Bharat Mission is in the country, the more our country will shine,” he added.
Milestone Achievements in Cleanliness and Hygiene
At the event held in Vigyan Bhawan, Modi praised the impact of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, calling it a people’s resolution led by and joined by citizens across the nation. He acknowledged that over 27 lakh events were organized in just 15 days of the Seva Pakhwada, with more than 28 crore participants across the country.
Launch of New Cleanliness Projects
On this occasion, Prime Minister Modi announced new cleanliness projects worth around Rs 10,000 crore. Under Mission Amrit, new water and sewage treatment plants will be built across India, along with other efforts like the Namami Gange project and the Govardhan biogas plant to turn waste into energy. Modi expressed hope that these efforts would take the Swachh Bharat Mission to new heights.
Remembering Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri
Modi paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversaries, linking the ideals of cleanliness and self-reliance to the vision of India’s freedom fighters. “Today’s day inspires us. Today, on October 2, I am filled with responsibility and emotion,” Modi said as he reflected on Gandhi Jayanti and the journey of the Swachh Bharat Mission.
A People’s Movement Led by All
PM Modi praised every citizen, sanitation workers, religious leaders, celebrities, NGOs, and media persons for their contributions to making the Swachh Bharat Mission a mass movement. He also extended his gratitude to political leaders, including the President, Vice President, and Chief Ministers, for their active involvement.
Modi Joins School Children in Cleanliness Drive
To mark the 10th anniversary of the campaign, Prime Minister Modi joined school children in a cleanliness drive and encouraged all citizens to participate in the initiative. He posted on X (formerly Twitter), urging Indians to further strengthen the spirit of Swachh Bharat by taking part in local cleanliness efforts.
