Sony Casting Middle Eastern Actors for a New AAA Game
The next God of War game could be exploring Egyptian mythology, according to a report from DanielRPK (paywall). The report claims that Sony is currently casting Middle Eastern actors for an unannounced AAA title, which is speculated to be the next installment in the franchise.
Unconfirmed but Logical Next Step
It’s important to note that this information has not been officially confirmed by Insider Gaming or Sony Santa Monica, so fans should take this news with caution until more details emerge.
A Natural Evolution for the Franchise
If true, a shift to Egyptian mythology would make sense for the God of War series. The franchise originally focused on Greek mythology, before transitioning to Norse mythology in the 2018 revival and its sequel, God of War Ragnarök. Moving to another rich and storied mythological setting would align with the series’ tradition of exploring different pantheons and deities.
Egypt Was Originally Considered for God of War 2018
This wouldn’t be the first time Egyptian mythology was considered for God of War. Creative director Cory Barlog previously revealed that Sony Santa Monica initially planned to set the 2018 game in Egypt before ultimately deciding on Norse mythology.
“I think the first pitch I gave was that we wouldn’t even know what was happening. So, it was Kratos walking through the desert—because we were, in my mind, still doing Egypt initially—wind, sand blowing all over the place as he’s kind of crawling through and then kind of stands up over a dune and checks out this really fantastic ancient city.” – Cory Barlog
What’s Next for Kratos?
If the next God of War does take place in Egypt, fans can expect Kratos to encounter legendary gods such as Ra, Anubis, Osiris, and Set. The setting could introduce new divine conflicts, mythological creatures, and a fresh narrative arc for the Ghost of Sparta.
