Timothée Chalamet made a bold statement about his ambitions while accepting the SAG Award for Best Actor on Sunday night. Recognized for his performance as Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown, the 29-year-old actor made it clear that he is striving to be among the greatest in his field.

“I can’t downplay the significance of this award because it means the most to me,” Chalamet said. “I know we’re in a subjective business, but the truth is, I’m really in pursuit of greatness. I know people don’t usually talk like that, but I want to be one of the greats. I’m inspired by the greats here tonight.”
He continued by naming his idols, citing legendary actors Daniel Day-Lewis, Marlon Brando, and Viola Davis, alongside sports icons like Michael Jordan and Michael Phelps. “I want to be up there,” he added. “So I’m deeply grateful. This doesn’t signify that, but it’s a little more fuel. It’s a little more ammo to keep going.”
A Role Years in the Making
Chalamet also took a moment to recognize his mother, who has worked with Actors’ Equity for 40 years. Reflecting on his dedication to the role, he shared, “I poured everything I had into playing this incomparable artist,” acknowledging the five-and-a-half years he spent preparing for the part.
Youngest Best Actor Winner at SAG Awards
At 29 years old, Chalamet became the youngest-ever recipient of the SAG Best Actor Award. With this win, he now eyes the Academy Awards, where he is also nominated for Best Actor.
