Dubai Customs and Emirates SkyCargo Boost Imports by 82%, Strengthening Regional Supply Chains

Dubai has solidified its status as a global trade and logistics hub through a strategic partnership between Dubai Customs and Emirates SkyCargo. This collaboration has led to an integrated logistics bridge that ensures the continuous flow of goods and essential supplies, even amidst changing regional dynamics.

The integrated system has been implemented at both the Dubai International Airport Cargo Village and the Al Maktoum International Airport Air Cargo Centre. This initiative has significantly expedited customs clearance processes, enhanced operational capacity, and bolstered food and pharmaceutical security in the UAE and across Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) markets.

Cargo Volumes Climb Sharply

Recent operational indicators reveal the substantial impact of this initiative. The volume of imported goods cleared through both facilities surged from 26.6 million kilograms in January 2026 to over 48.2 million kilograms by May 2026, marking an impressive growth of more than 82%.

Additionally, the maximum daily volume of handled goods increased from 1.24 million kilograms in January to 2.11 million kilograms in May, illustrating the system’s capability to meet rising demand while maintaining high service quality and processing speed.

Supporting Regional Supply Chains

The effects of this initiative extend beyond the UAE, contributing to supply chain continuity across GCC nations. Through its collaboration with Emirates SkyCargo, Dubai Customs facilitated 529 logistics truck trips by May 2026, transporting 2,636 tonnes of essential commodities, including food products, pharmaceuticals, and general cargo.

This operation established an effective regional supply corridor, ensuring that vital shipments continued to reach Gulf markets despite fluctuating regional conditions, thereby reinforcing Dubai’s role in enhancing supply chain resilience.

Vision of Resilience and Preparedness

His Excellency Abdulla bin Damithan, Chairman of the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, emphasized that the current achievements are a testament to the long-term vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. This vision has made resilience, agility, and preparedness defining strengths of Dubai’s economic model.

He further stated that Dubai will persist in strengthening the integration of customs, logistics, and maritime sectors to uphold its position as a trusted global trade gateway.

Integrated Logistics Ecosystem

His Excellency Dr. Abdulla Busenad, Director General of Dubai Customs, remarked that Dubai’s capacity to sustain trade flows and ensure the continuous delivery of essential goods reflects the leadership’s commitment to establishing a world-class logistics and economic ecosystem.

He noted that the outcomes achieved highlight the strength of collaboration between government entities and strategic partners, reaffirming Dubai’s ability to respond with agility while ensuring the uninterrupted movement of trade. Dr. Busenad also mentioned that Dubai Customs will continue to advance smart services and digital solutions in alignment with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, further enhancing the UAE’s position as a leading global trade hub.

Smart Initiatives Drive Efficiency

Dubai Customs has implemented several advanced initiatives, including the Green Corridor and Shahin programmes, which offer expedited and secure pathways for priority shipments such as food, medicines, and essential goods.

Customs and inspection teams have operated continuously to ensure business continuity. Both cargo facilities have adopted operational measures, including expanded inspection activities, increased utilization of available cargo space, and the addition of new inspection windows. These strategies have effectively reduced congestion, accelerated processing times, and maintained smooth cargo flows during peak demand periods.

Strengthening Dubai’s Cargo Leadership

Badr Abbas, Divisional Senior Vice President at Emirates SkyCargo, stated that Dubai has once again demonstrated its capability to sustain global trade flows through advanced infrastructure, strategic partnerships, and operational flexibility.

He noted that the results achieved further solidify Dubai’s position as a global hub for air cargo and logistics, showcasing its ability to efficiently connect markets and continents under all circumstances. Abbas added that Emirates SkyCargo will continue to invest in smart solutions and expand operational capabilities to support global trade growth and enhance the resilience of future supply chains.
