Dubai’s iconic landmarks are set to make their debut in the popular video game Fortnite, with a global launch scheduled for November 11. This innovative collaboration between the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) and Wild Unlimited aims to create an interactive gaming experience that showcases the emirate’s rich culture and destinations to a worldwide audience.
The project, titled “Dubai Developed in Fortnite 2033,” allows players to explore a digital recreation of Dubai within an open-world, team-based gaming environment. Developed using Epic Games’ Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN), this initiative marks a significant step in enhancing Dubai’s presence in the gaming industry.
Key Features of the Experience
The initial edition of the experience will feature a variety of notable locations, including Al Fahidi Fort, Almas Tower, Uptown Dubai, and Skydive Dubai, among others. Players will also have the opportunity to engage with local hotspots like Kite Beach and Dubai Harbour. The launch event, set to take place at SALT, Kite Beach, will coincide with the Wild Game Fest, bringing together players, creators, and the broader gaming community.
Supporting Local Talent
This initiative not only promotes Dubai’s landmarks but also supports local gaming talent. Wild Unlimited has conducted UEFN masterclasses at Uptown Dubai and the American University in Dubai (AUD), fostering skills development among aspiring game developers. Notably, students from AUD have contributed to the project by recreating their campus, allowing their work to be showcased on a global platform.
Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman and CEO of DMCC, emphasized the educational aspect of the project, stating that it provides a tangible demonstration of the potential for local talent to thrive in the gaming sector. Sophie Boutros, Executive Director of the Mohammed Bin Rashid School for Communication, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the initiative’s alignment with Dubai’s broader ambitions in the gaming industry.
