Balamory Cast Reunites: Discover Their Journeys 20 Years After the Show’s Finale
It’s been over two decades since the beloved children’s series Balamory aired its final episode in 2005, following its debut in 2002. The BBC has now announced the return of this iconic show with two new series, reigniting interest in the lives of its cherished cast members.
The show captured the hearts of audiences across the UK and beyond, with its catchy theme tune and vibrant characters. During its original run, Balamory attracted around two million viewers weekly in Britain and reached an estimated 15 million young viewers across Europe. The series even gained a surprising fan in the Vatican, where it was broadcast on BBC Prime.
Julie Wilson Nimmo – Miss Hoolie
Julie Wilson Nimmo, known for her role as Miss Hoolie, has continued to thrive in the entertainment industry. At 54, she recalls the joy of being recognized by children in her local Glasgow park, often identified by her voice when calling her own children. Nimmo’s career has flourished post-Balamory, with notable appearances in BBC Scotland’s comedy Scot Squad and various stage productions. She has been married to Greg Hemphill since 1999, and they share two children. Recently, she participated in a New Year broadcast for BBC Radio Scotland and published a book about their wild swimming adventures. Nimmo is set to reprise her role as Miss Hoolie in the upcoming series.
Andrew Agnew – PC Plum
Andrew Agnew, who portrayed PC Plum, the village’s police officer, has also made significant strides since the show ended. Now 49, Agnew transitioned into directing children’s television programs after Balamory. He has a rich background in pantomime, having performed in productions such as Sleeping Beauty and Peter Pan. Agnew was slated to perform in Love Me Tinder in 2020, but the production was canceled due to the pandemic. Recently, a clip of him singing the Balamory theme tune surfaced on social media, leading to his return to the role of PC Plum.
Miles Jupp – Archie the Inventor
Miles Jupp, who played Archie the Inventor, has carved out a successful career as a stand-up comedian. Now 46, he faced challenges in his comedy career due to his association with Balamory. Jupp noted that parents often brought their children to his shows, mistakenly believing they were family-friendly, which forced him to alter his material significantly. Despite these hurdles, he has continued to perform and is set to reprise his role in the new series.
Juliet Cadzow – Edie McCreadie
Juliet Cadzow, who played Edie McCreadie, the village bus driver, has remained active in the acting scene. She has appeared in popular series such as Still Game, Doctor Who, and Skins. Cadzow’s latest role was in the BBC thriller Clique in 2018. Tragically, her husband, David MacLennan, passed away in 2014 after a battle with motor neurone disease. The couple had one son, Shane.
Kim Tserkezie – Penny Pocket
Kim Tserkezie, who portrayed Penny Pocket, operated the village shop and café. Diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy during childhood, Tserkezie has been a prominent advocate for disability awareness. Now 52, she was recognized as one of the 100 most influential disabled people in the UK in 2019. Tserkezie won two Royal Television Awards in 2021 for her role in the short film Obsession and will also return in the new series of Balamory.
As reported by www.mirror.co.uk, the return of Balamory promises to bring back the charm and nostalgia of the original series while showcasing the growth and journeys of its beloved cast members.
