Crown Prince Hamdan bin Mohammed Reviews RTA Initiatives Strengthening Dubai’s Future Mobility
Dubai: His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Chairman of the Executive Council, recently reviewed a series of innovative initiatives and projects spearheaded by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai. This review underscores the emirate’s commitment to enhancing its mobility system through advanced and sustainable solutions.
The initiatives discussed include a rapid intervention vehicle, a smart bus station, and soft mobility parking facilities. Mattar Al Tayer, the Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, provided insights into the objectives of these projects and their significance in improving the efficiency and sustainability of Dubai’s transport infrastructure.
Sheikh Hamdan emphasized that Dubai’s ambitious development initiatives are designed to enhance public wellbeing, particularly through modern mass transit systems. He noted that these efforts align with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The Crown Prince remarked that such initiatives reinforce Dubai’s status as a leader in adopting innovative solutions and future technologies.
“The variety of futuristic mass transit projects we witness today is not merely the result of infrastructure development priorities, but a comprehensive redefinition of urban mobility in line with the highest international standards,” Sheikh Hamdan stated. He added that these projects reflect Dubai’s ambition to be the city that is quickest to anticipate the future and most capable of turning it into tangible reality.
Maximising Developmental Impact
The visit, which included His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, highlights the leadership’s commitment to monitoring government performance through field assessments. Sheikh Hamdan’s review focused on ensuring that projects are progressing according to established timelines and objectives.
During the assessment, Sheikh Hamdan examined the rapid intervention vehicle, designed to enhance emergency readiness during heavy rainfall while maintaining traffic flow. This vehicle is equipped with advanced pumping systems capable of managing large volumes of water, rescue equipment, a thermal drone for field assessments, backup power generation, and lighting systems for continuous operations. The vehicle is reported to reduce response times by over 75 percent, thereby enhancing safety and minimizing disruptions.
Smart Bus Station
The Crown Prince also reviewed the smart bus station project, which is part of RTA’s digital transformation and sustainability initiatives. Currently 90 percent complete, this station is located on Sheikh Zayed Road in Al Barsha 2, near the Mall of the Emirates. It offers fully contactless, paperless services integrated with the nol card and S’hail app. The station features solar panels, AI-powered cameras, smart air-quality sensors, and has achieved LEED Platinum certification.
Soft Mobility Parking Facilities
In a bid to promote sustainable transport, Sheikh Hamdan assessed the soft mobility parking facilities project aimed at facilitating the use of bicycles and electric scooters. These facilities are designed with shaded structures, charging capabilities, smart monitoring systems, and advertising opportunities. They are strategically located near public transport hubs to support first- and last-mile connectivity.
This initiative comes amid a reported 23 percent increase in bicycle usage, with total trips reaching 57.6 million in 2025. A phased expansion plan is set to commence with pilot operations at five locations in July 2026, leading to permanent deployment by 2028.
Mattar Al Tayer remarked that these initiatives reflect RTA’s commitment to adopting advanced technologies and developing sustainable transport solutions. He emphasized that they reinforce Dubai’s global leadership in smart mobility and innovation.
