Janet Jackson to Headline 2026 Grammy Hall of Fame Gala with Induction of ‘Rhythm Nation 1814’
Janet Jackson will take center stage at the 2026 Grammy Hall of Fame Gala, where her influential 1989 album, Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation 1814, will be inducted. The ceremony is scheduled for Friday, May 8, at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. This event comes on the heels of Jackson’s absence from the recent biopic Michael, which focuses on her brother, Michael Jackson.
A Family Tradition of Induction
The Grammy Hall of Fame induction holds significant meaning for the Jackson family. Michael Jackson was honored with inductions for both Off the Wall and Thriller, his first two albums produced by Quincy Jones. Additionally, The Jackson 5 achieved recognition with three of their four 1970 No. 1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100: “I Want You Back,” “ABC,” and “I’ll Be There.”
The Legacy of Rhythm Nation 1814
Rhythm Nation 1814 marked Janet Jackson’s fourth studio album. While A&M Records anticipated a follow-up to her previous work, Control (1986), Jackson opted for a concept album that tackled social issues. The album’s accompanying video won a Grammy for Best Music Video, Long Form. However, despite receiving six nominations over two years, the album and its singles did not win any Grammys. Notably, it was overlooked for a nomination for Album of the Year, a distinction that Control had received.
Gala Performances and Celebrations
The 2026 Grammy Hall of Fame Gala will honor 14 recordings spanning nearly a century of music. The Recording Academy and the Grammy Museum, co-hosts of the event, have announced a lineup of performances:
- Fyütch & Aura V: This father-daughter duo, who recently won a Grammy for Best Children’s Music Album for Harmony, will perform Ella Jenkins’ classic “You’ll Sing a Song and I’ll Sing a Song.” Aura V made history as the youngest Grammy winner at just 8 years old.
- George Clinton and Erykah Badu: They will pay tribute to Funkadelic’s Maggot Brain (1971), the band’s last album featuring the original lineup. Clinton and Parliament/Funkadelic received a lifetime achievement award from the Recording Academy in 2019.
- Heart’s Ann and Nancy Wilson: The sisters will perform selections from their 1976 debut album, Dreamboat Annie. The album, recorded in Vancouver, spawned hits like “Magic Man” and “Crazy on You.” They received lifetime achievement awards from the Recording Academy in 2023.
- Lucinda Williams: She will showcase songs from her Grammy-winning album Car Wheels on a Gravel Road (1998), which includes the singles “Right in Time” and “Can’t Let Go.”
- Take 6: This vocal group will perform “Jesus Gave Me Water,” a track from the first studio session of Sam Cooke, who later became a music legend.
- Taylor Hanson: The member of the trio Hanson will honor Nick Drake’s Pink Moon (1972), Drake’s final studio album, which was released in North America during his lifetime.
Additional performances will feature Norah Jones, the recipient of this year’s Ray Charles Architect of Sound Award, along with Josh Groban and Teddy Swims, who will pay tribute to Warner Records, this year’s Visionary of Music Award recipient.
