Abu Dhabi Hosts Regional Premiere of F1: The Movie at Yas Marina Circuit Cinema
A Grand Cinematic Experience
Abu Dhabi recently celebrated the regional premiere of F1: The Movie at Yas Marina Circuit, a prominent filming location for the film. The event showcased a specially constructed cinema complete with tailored guest activations and a glamorous red carpet, attended by various notable figures from the film and entertainment industry.
Guests at the premiere included important representatives from regional organizations that collaborated closely on the production. This roster featured members from the Creative Media Authority and the Abu Dhabi Film Commission, alongside other key supporters like local tourism and aviation stakeholders.
Insights from Key Officials
Mohamed Dobay, Acting Director General of the Creative Media Authority, shared his thoughts on the premiere, stating, “This premiere reflects the power of collaboration across Abu Dhabi’s creative ecosystem. By transforming Yas Marina Circuit into a one-of-a-kind cinema experience, we have shown what is possible when regional talent, partners, and robust infrastructure come together. It is a testament to Abu Dhabi’s growing role as a hub for world-class productions.”
The Head of the Abu Dhabi Film Commission, Sameer Al Jaberi, added, “Bringing F1: The Movie to life and transforming Yas Marina Circuit into a live production set reflects the versatility and capability of Abu Dhabi as a filming destination. The project also highlights the strength of our rebate programme, the commitment of our local crews, and the collective support of our partners across the Emirate.”
Milestones in Production
The premiere event coincided with the completion of the film’s production, concluded during the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in December 2024. This instance marked a remarkable achievement, being the first feature film to capture real-time track action amid a live Formula 1 race weekend.
Guests experienced an array of immersive activities, including driving simulators and exclusive car displays, with a strong emphasis on the broader Formula 1 environment. Special exhibits included the official APXGP Formula 1 car, as well as the APXGP race helmet worn by actor Damson Idris at the recent Met Gala, each serving to deepen the connection between the film and the iconic sport.
Engaging the Local Community
Throughout its extensive production, F1: The Movie utilized Abu Dhabi’s local resources, completing 29 days of filming over three separate visits. The initiative engaged 284 local crew members and offered multiple internships through talent development programmes. Various locations served as backdrops for the film, including Yas Marina Circuit, Zayed International Airport, and twofour54 Studios at Yas Creative Hub, with local production services provided by a dedicated team.
A committed group of volunteers supported the premiere event, aiding in areas such as guest services, red carpet management, and logistical coordination to ensure seamless proceedings.
Collaboration on a Global Scale
Produced by Apple Studios in cooperation with Formula 1 Management and all ten Formula 1 teams, F1: The Movie is now screened in cinemas across the region as of June 26, 2025. Its distribution is managed globally by a major entertainment entity. The film’s production not only celebrates the sport of Formula 1 but also emphasizes Abu Dhabi’s capabilities as a premier filming destination.
The successful execution of the event and the film project underscores the concerted efforts of various stakeholders in establishing Abu Dhabi as a key player in the global film industry. The initiative reflects ongoing investment in cultural and creative sectors, paving the way for future projects and collaborations.
