Abu Dhabi Implements Truck Ban on Major Roads Starting December 1
New Restrictions on Heavy Vehicles
Starting December 1, 2025, Abu Dhabi will implement new restrictions on heavy vehicles across several major roads as part of a broader initiative aimed at improving road safety, reducing congestion, and enhancing traffic flow throughout the emirate. The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), an agency under the Department of Municipalities and Transport, has outlined specific routes where heavy-vehicle movement will be prohibited.
Heavy vehicles will be banned on the Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Road (E11) and Al Raha Beach Road (E10). Additionally, further limitations will be enforced during peak traffic hours on Al Rawdah Road (E30) in Musaffah. These measures are designed to streamline vehicular movement and improve overall transport efficiency.
Traffic Management Strategy
The ITC’s newly established rules are part of a comprehensive strategy to manage heavy truck traffic on busy corridors. The initiative is a response to the frequent congestion observed on routes heavily utilized by goods transport vehicles. By regulating heavy-vehicle movement, city officials aim to significantly reduce the risk of accidents and enhance mobility across the emirate’s road network.
The prohibition of heavy vehicles on E11 and E10 specifically targets periods of high volume, particularly where private cars and public buses are prevalent. This strategic approach is intended to alleviate traffic congestion on these critical arteries.
Road Rules and Alternative Routes
“The new regulations are designed to enhance daily travel and create safer transport conditions,” noted the ITC. In a proactive measure, the ITC has designated alternative routes for heavy vehicles, including Al Fayah – Seih Shuaib Road (E75) and Al Haffar Road. These roads have been equipped to accommodate truck traffic efficiently while maintaining overall traffic flow within the city.
Furthermore, heavy vehicles will be restricted on Al Rawdah Road (E30) in the Musaffah Industrial Area. From the Bridges Complex to the junction with Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed International Road (E11), truck movements will be disallowed during morning and evening peak hours. An alternative route via the ICAD Bridge will be provided to minimize interactions between heavy and light vehicles, further enhancing traffic management in the area.

Abdulla Hamad AlEryani, Acting Executive Director of the Planning and Strategic Affairs Sector at ITC, emphasized the organization’s dedication to improving the efficiency of Abu Dhabi’s road network. These new measures reflect a commitment to safety and compliance with Abu Dhabi Vision 2030, which aims to develop an integrated and sustainable transportation system aligned with the emirate’s long-term economic objectives.
AlEryani commented, “The Integrated Transport Centre continuously implements targeted initiatives designed to improve traffic flow and provide a safe, community- and environmentally friendly transport environment.” He further elaborated on how the restrictions are part of a carefully considered approach that balances the need for traffic safety with the necessities of commercial transport.
