Arm has introduced its Mali G2-Ultra NX graphics processor, a significant advancement in mobile gaming technology, now featured in the newly launched Xiaomi 18 Fold in mainland China. With five years of development behind it, the Mali G2-Ultra NX aims to bring PC-like technologies to mobile devices, enhancing game performance through faster processing, higher resolutions, and advanced lighting techniques—all while maintaining energy efficiency. AI-Driven Enhancements
Arm’s new graphics processor is designed to enable a suite of hardware-accelerated graphical techniques akin to Nvidia’s DLSS, including AI upscaling, frame generation, and ray reconstruction. Chris Bergey, Arm’s EVP of Edge AI, emphasized the importance of these advancements, stating, “We think it’s going to be huge.” The Mali G2-Ultra NX reportedly offers an 85% performance increase over previous models, with capabilities that allow for up to four times the framerate when using techniques like Neural Super Sampling and Neural Frame Rate Upscaling.

While the Mali G2-Ultra NX is currently featured in the Xiaomi 18 Fold, it is expected to be integrated into a variety of devices, including tablets and Chromebooks, in the near future. Bergey hinted that some upcoming Google devices might also utilize this technology.
