Dale Davis, who was Winehouse’s trusted bass player and confidant for eight years, recounted the devastating moment he learned of her passing. He had spoken to her just a day prior, reflecting on their close bond. Davis described how, despite their nearly 20-year age difference, they often communicated and shared a deep friendship. He recalled their final conversation, stating, “I spoke to her three hours before she went to bed.”

During that last call, they shared affectionate words, with Davis expressing his intention to see her the following day. “I said ‘Love you’. She said ‘love you’ and put the phone down. And that was the last thing I heard,” he recounted.

He drew parallels between Winehouse’s struggles and those of other artists, noting, “It’s a very similar story to Karen Carpenter in my opinion.”

He also addressed misconceptions regarding the support Winehouse received. Davis insisted that help was available, including from himself, but acknowledged that some individuals may have stronger willpower than others. “I wish I could have helped in that way,” he expressed.
