Beverley Callard Shares Emotional Cancer Update as Lymph Node Results Reveal Positive News
Beverley Callard, renowned for her role as Liz McDonald in Coronation Street, has provided an emotional update regarding her ongoing battle with cancer. The 69-year-old actress recently disclosed that her cancer diagnosis has progressed, revealing it has spread to a lymph node.
Diagnosis and Initial Treatment
In February 2026, Callard announced her diagnosis of early-stage breast cancer. Since then, she has been candid with her fans about her journey. In March, she underwent her first surgery. However, it took approximately six weeks to receive the results, during which she learned that while the cancer was removed, it had spread to a lymph node.
Recent Developments and Positive News
Following additional tests conducted in the United States, Callard, who has recently moved to Ireland with her husband Jon McEwan for her role in the BBC soap Fair City, took to Instagram to share her latest news. She expressed relief upon receiving favorable results regarding the lymph nodes.
“I’ve got absolutely great news,” she stated. “One of the lymph nodes that they’d sent over for testing to see how aggressive the cancer would be is showing low numbers, which is really good. That means I can begin the radiotherapy very soon, which I’m pleased about. So the next step is coming ahead. Thank you for all your messages; I’m sending loads of love. I am popping champagne!”
Community Support and Reactions
Callard’s announcement was met with an outpouring of support from her fans. Many expressed their joy at the positive update, with one fan commenting, “Great news! Rest up ahead of RT and keep smiling,” while another remarked, “So pleased for you Bev. You are being so strong and have great support around you.”
In her Instagram post, Callard reflected on her journey, stating, “Well… the results are in and we are popping the champagne! I can’t begin to explain the relief… now on to the next steps. What a journey it’s been so far… sending love and thanks to everyone.”
Health Challenges and Public Appearances
The positive update comes shortly after Callard had to withdraw from the live final of I’m A Celebrity… South Africa due to health concerns. She described feeling “wiped out” after attempting to make a virtual appearance via Zoom for an interview. “The internet went down halfway through, so I didn’t finish. I was wiped for days,” she shared.
Callard first revealed her diagnosis during an appearance on RTE’s Late Late Show, explaining that she received the news just minutes before she was set to film for Fair City. “I was quite nervous and thinking, ‘I hope everybody thinks I’m all right’,” she recounted.
Looking Ahead
As Callard prepares to start her radiotherapy, she remains optimistic about her health and future. “But I’m fine, I’m absolutely fine. My head was a bit mashed for the first few days. It’s very early stages, and I’m along with thousands of other women as well,” she stated.
