Cody Verdecias Launches Deep Love Recordings to Revitalize Alternative Music Culture
Cody Verdecias, a veteran A&R executive at Atlantic Records, announced the launch of his new label, Deep Love Recordings, on May 6, 2026. Established in 2025, the label aims to cultivate a diverse roster of artists, including the Dallas-based metal hybrid band Empty Shell Casing, the modern regional Mexican duo Corridos Ketamina, California deathcore group Rev3rent, and DJ/songwriter/producer FIFI. The initiative is a collaborative effort between Verdecias and Atlantic Music Group, with the label’s inaugural release featuring two singles from Empty Shell Casing last October.
A Decade of Experience at Atlantic Records
Verdecias has dedicated over ten years to his role as Vice President of A&R at Atlantic Records. During this time, he has signed and developed major projects, including artists like Turnstile, 100 gecs, and Fred again.. He also manages a range of artists, including Dahi, Daytrip, Emile Haynie, Lexa Gates, Eartheater, and Dylan Brady.
Focus on Youth-Driven Alternative Music
With Deep Love Recordings, Verdecias aims to channel the same youth-driven alternative music that influenced his own musical journey. Originally from New York and now based in Los Angeles, he was part of the hip-hop collective World’s Fair and grew up immersed in alternative music culture. His uncle, Perry Farrell, the frontman of Jane’s Addiction and founder of Lollapalooza, played a significant role in shaping his musical landscape. Verdecias recalls attending Lollapalooza every summer, describing it as a pivotal experience in his life.
Reflecting on the 1990s, Verdecias noted, “It was the golden era of alternative music, hip-hop, grunge, and pop.” He emphasized his uncle’s early fascination with electronic music, which greatly influenced his own musical education.
Building a Hub for Alternative Subcultures
Verdecias envisions Deep Love as a central hub for youth culture, not only focusing on signing acts from alternative subcultures but also expanding their fanbases through live events and mini-festivals. He stated, “Becoming a curator in the live space was really important to me,” highlighting the need for community engagement in the music industry.
He expressed concern over the online segregation of subcultures, which can hinder real-life connections. Verdecias believes that fostering a sense of community is crucial for the label’s mission.
A New Frontier for Alternative Music
Verdecias’s tenure at Atlantic began in 2013 when he approached CEO Craig Kallman with a request to work across all genres. He recalls Kallman’s support, stating, “He said, ‘I’m going to set you up to do that.’” This opportunity allowed Verdecias to redefine the meaning of “alternative” music in a contemporary context.
Brandon Davis and Jeff Levin, Atlantic’s executive VPs and co-heads of pop A&R, praised Verdecias, stating, “Cody is a truly unique executive with the ability to connect with artists and creators through his deep understanding of music and culture.” They expressed excitement about the potential for Deep Love to thrive under his leadership.
A Vision for the Future
Verdecias aims to create a label that supports artists in their creative endeavors, emphasizing the importance of providing resources and opportunities. He articulated his mission: “I’m trying to connect alternative people and re-establish the word ‘alternative.’”
He highlighted the potential for cross-genre collaborations, noting that fans of different genres often share similar tastes but lack opportunities to connect. Verdecias intends to bridge these gaps by featuring diverse artists on the same bill.
He also addressed the stigma surrounding record labels, asserting that many artists may benefit from the support a label can provide. “I want to create a label where those artists feel good about this decision,” he stated.
Cultural Hub Beyond Music
Verdecias envisions Deep Love as more than just a music label. He aims to create a cultural hub that encompasses various artistic endeavors. “If an artist wants to make a film, I know how to get that done,” he explained, emphasizing his commitment to supporting artists in their creative pursuits.
He expressed a deep passion for music and its potential to impact lives positively. “I feel so inspired by music right now. I think kids want real connections,” he remarked. The name “Deep Love” reflects his belief in the transformative power of music.
