Dubai Airport Launches Red Carpet Biometric Arrivals, Cuts Processing Time to 6 Seconds
Expanding Biometric Services at Dubai International Airport
Dubai Airports is set to enhance its Red Carpet biometric fast-track service for arriving passengers at Dubai International Airport (DXB), specifically in Terminal 3, within the next two months. This initiative marks a significant evolution in the passenger experience at one of the world’s busiest airports.
The rollout follows the successful implementation of the Red Carpet departure corridor, which has dramatically redefined passport control procedures. The new service aims to further streamline the arrival process, cutting processing times to mere seconds.
Enhanced Efficiency and Time Savings
Majed Al Joker, Chief Operating Officer at Dubai Airports, noted that the Red Carpet service is capable of processing passengers in as little as six seconds and a maximum of fourteen seconds. This rapid processing time is a critical advancement in travel efficiency.
“The significance of the Red Carpet service extends beyond individual travelers,” Al Joker emphasized. “It enables groups of eight to ten passengers to navigate through the smart corridor simultaneously, thanks to real-time biometric data processing.”
The Red Carpet corridor at DXB is a groundbreaking service that allows passengers to pass through passport control without having to present travel documents or stop at any point.
Integration of Technology for Passenger Convenience
Al Joker stated, “We are continuously striving to reimagine the passenger journey by integrating technology into our operations to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of travel procedures.” He added that biometric technologies have been instrumental in simplifying, integrating, or eliminating various steps within the travel process.
Much of the innovation occurs behind the scenes, with artificial intelligence playing a vital role. The technology aids in aircraft positioning, assesses aircraft characteristics, and analyzes operational data in real time. This capability enables operations teams to make quicker, more informed decisions.
Record Passenger Traffic Anticipation
Reflecting on the achievements of Dubai International Airport in the third quarter, Al Joker mentioned that the results indicate a robust operational ecosystem grounded in efficiency. He attributed this to the One DXB team culture and the strong demand for tourism and economic growth in Dubai and globally.
Looking forward to December, Al Joker confirmed expectations of strong traffic in line with national projections for a record travel season. He expressed confidence that the teams are well-prepared, equipped with flexible operational plans to manage peak travel periods, supported by extensive experience in handling elevated passenger volumes.
According to Al Joker, fourth-quarter figures and year-end estimates are still being assessed, but indications show that Dubai Airports expects to surpass 95.2 million passengers in 2023.
Growth at Al Maktoum International Airport
Al Joker also addressed the growth at Al Maktoum International Airport, stating that operations have expanded significantly, accommodating approximately 910,000 passengers in the first half of the year across more than 20 airlines. He anticipates that nearly one million passengers will pass through by the end of the year.
The design for the new airport is nearing completion, with tenders and partnerships on the verge of being finalized. Al Joker clarified that the existing terminal used by passengers does not form part of the new airport infrastructure, which will feature a distinct design, scale, structure, and capabilities.
Emphasis on Sustainability and Innovation
The Dubai Airshow 2025 is expected to serve as a prominent venue for showcasing innovations, including next-generation air mobility solutions, electric aircraft, and vertical take-off vehicles. Al Joker highlighted that Dubai Airports is actively participating in sustainability initiatives alongside partners, aiming to offer practical solutions for sustainable aircraft handling and increasing reliance on renewable energy in ground operations.
This commitment reflects not only a forward-thinking approach to aviation but also aligns with global trends toward sustainable travel practices.
