Dubai Duty Free Hits $221M in Sales as Perfume, Gold, and Fashion Surge

Record-Breaking October Sales

Dubai Duty Free has achieved unprecedented success in October 2025, recording sales of AED805.6 million (approximately $220.7 million). This figure represents a remarkable continuation of growth, marking the eighth out of ten months this year that set new sales records.

The October total not only eclipsed last year’s record of AED692 million ($189 million) by 19.31%, but it also stands as the third-largest monthly sales figure in the retailer’s extensive 42-year history. The all-time high remains at AED821.4 million ($225 million), achieved in December 2024.

Exceptional Growth Beyond Passenger Increase

Dubai Duty Free’s performance in October outpaced passenger growth by at least 10%. The final traffic figures from Dubai Airport are expected to be released later this month. Ramesh Cidambi, Managing Director of Dubai Duty Free, commented, “This milestone reflects the collective effort of the entire team and the support of Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, in driving continued growth.”

In terms of year-to-date sales, Dubai Duty Free has recorded AED6.88 billion ($1.885 billion), showcasing an increase of AED552 million ($151 million), which equates to an 8.72% rise compared to the previous year.

Strong Demand for Perfumes and Gold

October sales were significantly boosted by the ongoing popularity of perfumes and gold. The perfumes category emerged as the top seller, generating AED139.9 million ($38.3 million), while gold sales reached AED97.2 million ($26.6 million), fueled by heightened demand during the Diwali season.

In addition to perfumes and gold, liquor sales amounted to AED96.7 million ($26.5 million). Confectionery also saw extraordinary sales of AED78 million ($21.4 million), driven largely by the commercial success of “Dubai Chocolate,” which alone accounted for AED34 million ($9.3 million) in sales—translating to 71 tons across nine brands. Tobacco sales were strong too, contributing AED74 million ($20.3 million).

Luxury Fashion Sales Surge

Luxury fashion boutiques made notable gains, with leading brands such as Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Dior, Gucci, and Cartier recording a remarkable 43.5% increase in sales year-on-year. This growth followed the opening of new Louis Vuitton and Cartier stores in Concourse A in September.

The newly established 280sqm Louis Vuitton store quickly became a favored destination for premium travelers, while the 140sqm Cartier boutique saw a strong market entry. Additionally, Dubai Duty Free’s REKLAIM pre-owned luxury concept store reported AED2.2 million ($605,000) in sales for October, including the sale of a notable Audemars Piguet watch priced over AED200,000 ($54,794) and two Hermès Birkin handbags, each valued above AED120,000 ($32,876).

Concourse A led the overall performance with a 27.4% increase, while Concourse C and Concourse B followed closely with growth rates of 21.9% and 21.5%, respectively. Terminal 2 also reported an 18.3% increase in sales.

Global Sales Trends Display Robust Growth

Dubai Duty Free reported significant growth across various international markets, with sales to passengers heading to Africa, the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, the Far East, and Australasia all increasing by over 20%. Sales growth to Russia was documented at 14.2%, while Africa showed a rise of 18.5%. More modest expansion was observed in the Indian subcontinent, recording a growth rate of 6.62%.

As Dubai Duty Free prepares to celebrate its 42nd anniversary on December 20, 2025, the year is poised to solidify its reputation as a leader in the travel retail sector. The ongoing growth in the non-oil sector, an increase in international passenger traffic, and the expansion of luxury retail offerings are key factors contributing to Dubai Duty Free’s enduring success, positioning it as one of the top-performing airport retailers globally.
