Dubai Metro Blue Line Reaches 10% Completion in Five Months

Construction Overview

In a significant development for urban transportation, the construction of the Dubai Metro Blue Line has reached 10% completion just five months after its groundbreaking ceremony held in June 2025. This ambitious infrastructure project, which has a total estimated budget of AED 56.5 billion (approximately US$ 15.4 billion), spans 30 kilometers and will feature 14 stations.

The Blue Line aims to connect the existing Red and Green Lines, effectively linking key residential, economic, and educational districts across the city. To ensure timely progress, over 500 engineers and experts, alongside a workforce of 3,000 personnel, are currently stationed across 12 different construction sites.

Operational Safety and Efficiency

The construction effort has logged more than 3 million work hours without any fatalities, underscoring a commitment to high international safety standards. To date, over 260 deep foundations have been laid, and approximately 400,000 cubic meters of excavation work has been completed. Additionally, the consortium has established two ready-mix concrete plants and production yards located in Al Ruwayyah 3 and International City to enhance efficiency in construction processes.

In announcing this milestone, the Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority emphasized that construction work is proceeding according to schedule. “We anticipate achieving 30% completion by the end of 2026,” he stated. The expected operations start date for the Blue Line is September 9, 2029.

Strategic Importance of the Blue Line

The Dubai Metro Blue Line is considered one of the Roads and Transport Authority’s most strategic projects. It is anticipated to serve areas that will house approximately one million residents by the year 2040. Additionally, this line will provide direct transit to Dubai International Airport in just 20 minutes.

The project aligns with the Dubai Urban Plan 2040 and the Dubai Economic Agenda by promoting the concept of a ‘20-minute city’ designed to reduce traffic congestion by up to 20%. The Blue Line will run in two primary directions: from the Creek Interchange Station on the Green Line in Al Jaddaf to Dubai Academic City, and from the Centrepoint Interchange Station on the Red Line in Al Rashidiya to International City.

Architectural Highlights

Among the several architectural features planned for the project, the Emaar Station stands out as a remarkable centerpiece. This station is set to become the highest metro station in the world at 74 meters above ground level, designed with a capacity to handle 240,000 passengers daily by 2040.
