Dubai residents have taken to social media to share touching stories of kindness from Dubai Police, sparked by a LinkedIn post from a dog owner lost while searching for the ‘Dog Beach’ at Dubai Islands before dawn.

Cassie Williams, a partner at Montresor Legal, recounted her experience in a post that quickly gained traction. At 6:15 AM, she found herself disoriented with her dog in the car, struggling to locate the beach. Instead of reprimanding her, officers from a nearby patrol car approached to check on her well-being. They offered to escort her to her destination.

Williams described the interaction as “no stress, no judgment, just care and support.”

A Welcoming Environment

In an interview, Williams expressed that her experience encapsulated the essence of living in the UAE. She noted, “The feeling in the whole of UAE really is amazing. Particularly at the moment, given the circumstances, we are feeling so protected and taken care of.”

Having relocated to Dubai in February 2023 to establish the Middle East branch of her London-based firm, Williams highlighted the opportunities the region offers. She emphasized the stark contrast between her experiences in the UAE and those in other countries, stating, “In many countries, you get quite scared when the police roll up next to you. But here, instead of telling me off, they were like: ‘Oh no, we’ll help you.’”

Williams faced a malfunctioning GPS during her early morning drive. The officers contacted their headquarters and escorted her with sirens, guiding her to the correct turn. “It was really quite unbelievable,” she remarked.

Stories of Support

Williams’ post resonated with many, prompting residents to share their own encounters with Dubai Police. Elinor Wagdy, a lifelong UAE resident, recounted a late-night incident on Sheikh Zayed Road when her car tire burst at 1 AM. A police patrol stopped to assist her, asking simply, “Need help?”

Officers returned shortly with a petrol station attendant who changed her tire. “They also brought me a bottle of water and a Ferrero chocolate, then waited until everything was done and I was safely back on the road again,” Wagdy shared. She reflected on the significance of such moments, stating, “Kindness always wins.”

Unexpected Assistance

Another resident, Yasir Masood, shared his experience of getting lost in the Gold Souq area shortly after moving to the UAE. Struggling to find his parked car with two children in tow, he approached a police officer for assistance. The officer promptly offered to help him search for his vehicle, saying, “Get in the car, we’ll look for it!”

Adelya Fazylzyanova also recounted how officers have assisted her multiple times while traveling with her baby. She noted, “Many times, the policemen helped me to find a taxi when they noticed I was struggling and with baby in hands. Especially helpful during school pick-up hours and Hessa Street blocked. Means a lot!”

A Unique Experience

For many residents, these stories encapsulate the unique feeling of living in Dubai, a sentiment that can be difficult to articulate. Williams emphasized the importance of such moments, stating, “The level of safety, attention, and genuine look-out for people is something I deeply appreciate.”

Martina Kikic, a long-time Dubai resident and advisor to C-suite executives, remarked on the approachable nature of police in the UAE, a contrast to experiences in other countries. “This is what I like about the UAE. I’ve been in Dubai for almost 10 years, and while in most countries people are scared of the police, here I’m happy when I see them,” she explained. Kikic acknowledged the challenge of conveying this feeling to those outside the UAE.
