Dubai Unveils Plan to Become World’s Most Liveable City by 2033 With 310 Parks, 60 Schools, and 15,000 Aviation Jobs
Ambitious Vision for a Healthier Future
Dubai has introduced an extensive plan aimed at establishing itself as the world’s most liveable and healthiest city by 2033. This initiative includes significant undertakings across various sectors such as urban greenery, education, healthcare, aviation, sports, and finance.
The plan was sanctioned during a recent meeting of the Dubai Executive Council, presided over by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai. This strategic initiative aligns with the broader ambitions outlined by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, enhancing Dubai’s global reputation as a beacon of sustainability and wellness.
Enhancing Urban Greenery: 800 Projects and 310 New Parks
A key component of the vision involves the Public Parks and Greenery Strategy, which will see the launch of over 800 projects designed to bolster Dubai’s green landscapes. Central to this strategy is the establishment of 310 new parks and enhancements to 322 existing green spaces.
The initiative also plans to introduce 120 new outdoor spaces and 14 tech-driven projects, along with improvements to over 70 roads’ rights-of-way for better community connectivity. This ambitious plan aims to increase annual park visits to 95 million by 2040, triple the number of trees, and expand green areas to 187 square kilometers, ensuring that every resident enjoys approximately 11 square meters of green space.
Additionally, all irrigation efforts will utilize 100% recycled water, and 80% of residents will live within a five-minute walk from a local park and a ten-minute bike ride from a larger district park.
Aviation Sector Expansion: Creating 15,000 Jobs
In a bid to strengthen its position as a global aviation hub, the Dubai Executive Council has unveiled the Aviation Talent 33 initiative. This plan is anticipated to generate 15,000 new job opportunities and introduce 4,000 training and upskilling programs.
Furthermore, the initiative seeks to establish 30 new strategic partnerships with international aviation firms while also promoting Emiratisation in leadership and operational roles. This effort coincides with Dubai’s ambitions to double its economy, attracting AED 650 billion ($177 billion) in investments and adding 65,000 Emiratis to the private sector workforce.
Education Focus: 60 Affordable Schools by 2033
To bolster education and human capital, Dubai has approved a new policy aimed at expanding high-quality affordable schools. The plan aims to introduce 60 new schools by 2033, increasing the total student capacity by 120,000 seats.
To attract investors, the government is offering incentives such as reduced land leasing costs and lower fees. This strategy supports the Dubai Education Strategy 2033, which aspires to rank the city among the top ten global cities for educational quality.
Advancements in Healthcare: Early Detection Services
The city’s new Early Detection Healthcare Services Project will amplify preventive care efforts, aspiring to improve Dubai’s standings in global health metrics. The goal is to reduce chronic diseases, which currently account for 52% of deaths, and promote longer life expectancies.
Key targets include a 40% increase in early colon cancer detection, a 50% improvement in vaccination services, and achieving over 90% patient satisfaction with early detection services. Appointment waiting times are projected to be cut to seven days or less. Sheikh Hamdan emphasized the importance of safeguarding individual health as an investment in the future of society.
Sports Sector Development: Aiming for Global Leadership
The Sports Sector Strategic Plan 2033, crafted by the Dubai Sports Council, is designed to elevate Dubai as a premier destination for sports. The plan comprises 19 programs and 75 initiatives spanning 17 sports disciplines. This approach aims to foster participation among youth and people of determination while drawing international sporting events to the city.
Financial Reform: Establishing a Specialized Court
In a move to enhance financial resilience, a new Financial Restructuring and Insolvency Court will be established. This specialized framework will address financial reorganization and bankruptcy cases, helping protect creditor rights and prevent unnecessary liquidations.
This initiative is expected to support Dubai’s ambition to be recognized as one of the top three financial centers globally.
Commitment to Sustainability and Innovation
Sheikh Hamdan underscored that these newly approved strategies reflect a unified commitment to making Dubai the “most advanced, attractive, and sustainable city in the world.” The focus remains on creating a balanced ecosystem that merges urban development with nature, health, and quality of life, while empowering future generations.
