Jonathan Majors, a prominent actor in the US, has been given a probationary sentence following his conviction for the assault of his former partner, British choreographer Grace Jabbari. After being found guilty, Marvel Studios terminated their association with him. Majors is required to partake in a year-long domestic violence program as part of his sentence.
The court decided against imprisonment, instead convicting him of third-degree assault and second-degree harassment, which could have led to a year in jail. In addition to the domestic violence program, Majors must continue receiving mental health counseling, as per the judge’s decision.
The sentencing occurred in Manhattan’s state Supreme Court, where Justice Michael Gaffey opted for a conditional discharge, noting an agreement between both parties that jail was unnecessary. Majors, known for his role as Kang the Conqueror in Marvel’s cinematic universe, including appearances in “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” and the Disney+ series “Loki,” is now mandated to complete a designated intervention program in Los Angeles.
The case unfolded from an altercation in New York, triggered by a contentious text message on Majors’ phone, leading to a physical confrontation that resulted in injuries to Jabbari. Majors contested the allegations, suggesting he was the victim, a claim the prosecutors did not support.
As he departed the court, Majors refrained from commenting. However, in a subsequent ABC News interview, he expressed surprise at the conviction and hoped for a return to his acting career, stating his wish to work in Hollywood again.
