Experience Alserkal Art Month 2026: Dubai’s Unmissable Free Art Festival This Weekend
Alserkal Avenue in Dubai’s Al Quoz industrial area is currently hosting Alserkal Art Month 2026, a vibrant celebration of art that runs until May 18. This month-long event features a diverse array of exhibitions, public art displays, performances, and interactive activities, making it a key destination for art enthusiasts and the curious alike.
What is Alserkal Art Month?
Alserkal Art Month 2026 is fully underway, showcasing new gallery exhibitions, public art installations, open studios, and various performances. Traditionally held as an annual Art Week, this year’s event has expanded to cover five weekends, running from April 18 to May 18.
The organization behind the event emphasizes that the extension is a response to current challenges, stating, “challenging times require challenging programmes.” This initiative aims to highlight the broader artistic community and foster engagement through diverse programming.
The timing of this year’s event coincides with the rescheduling of Art Dubai 2026, which was moved from April to May due to regional disruptions. Alserkal Avenue has capitalized on this overlap to extend its programming, aligning its closing events with Art Dubai’s 20th edition. This collaboration includes various commissions, screenings, talks, and public programs.
Future of Alserkal Art Month
While Alserkal Avenue has not officially confirmed plans to maintain the month-long format in subsequent years, it is shifting toward a more consistent and expansive cultural programming model. The 2026 edition reflects a long-term strategy aimed at fostering sustained public engagement and a more comprehensive cultural calendar.
Location and Accessibility
Alserkal Avenue is situated in the Al Quoz industrial area of Dubai, accessible via three entrances on 17th Street, 6A Street, and First Al Khail Street in Al Quoz 1. The area transforms into a pedestrian-only zone every weekday from 7 PM onwards and remains so throughout the weekends.
The Avenue is also pet-friendly, although policies may vary across different spaces, so visitors are advised to check in advance if they plan to tour an exhibition with pets.
Activities Beyond Visual Art
In addition to visual art, Alserkal Avenue offers a variety of experiences, including independent cinemas, live performances, workshops, literary events, concept stores, cafés, and wellness studios. Notable institutions such as Cinema Akil, the UAE’s first independent cinema, contribute to the cultural landscape, alongside design studios and performance venues that regularly host concerts, poetry readings, and interdisciplinary programming.
The district emphasizes public engagement and accessibility, with many programs designed to encourage interaction rather than passive viewing. Activities include family-oriented events, guided art walks, open studios, and educational initiatives aimed at children and young creatives.
Food plays a significant role during Alserkal Art Month, with visitors able to explore specialty cafés, local restaurants, bookstores, and seasonal markets throughout the area.
Cost of Entry
One of the highlights of Alserkal Art Month is that all programs are free to attend. However, pre-registration is required through the Alserkal Art Month website.
