Overview of the UAE Cup
The UAE Cup returns this week to the Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting and Golf Club, marking its second year as a premier international amateur championship. This tournament has quickly gained recognition, drawing elite players and national federations from across the Middle East and beyond.
This year, powered by Emirates NBD, the UAE Cup welcomes participants from 39 countries, creating a diverse and competitive atmosphere. The championship spans three days, starting from Friday, the 12th, through Sunday, the 14th, featuring both Men’s and Women’s divisions alongside a newly introduced Team component.
Competitive Landscape and Opportunities
Participants in the UAE Cup will compete not just for trophies but also for national pride and opportunities that extend to the professional level. Experience in this tournament could lead to spots in two upcoming HotelPlanner Tour events for men and a Ladies European Tour event for women. Additionally, the leading junior boy and girl will secure invitations to the Junior Dubai Desert Classic, scheduled for January 16 to 18, 2026.
The tournament boasts some of the strongest amateur golfers, including WAGR No. 66 Ella Scaysbrook, No. 67 Eliot Baker, and No. 89 Louis Klein. A prominent local roster features Saif Thabet, Rayan Ahmed, Sam Mullane, Rashed Al Emadi, Mohammed Thabet, and Jonathan Selvaraj in the Men’s Division, while Lara El Chaib, Jamie Camero, Aasiya Saleem, and Hamda Al Suwaidi represent the Ladies Division.
Representation from the Arab Region and Beyond
The UAE Cup showcases strong participation from various Arab nations along with over 30 UAE residents. Notable competitors include Khalifa Alkaabi and Khalifa Almaraisi from Bahrain, Daniel Thaher and Yasmeen Thaher from Palestine, as well as Lara Bakhour and Salim Zein of Lebanon. Other participants hail from Morocco, Oman, and Qatar, making the competitive field truly international.
The newly introduced team event allows each participating country’s federation or association to nominate one male and one female amateur to represent their nation, further enhancing the tournament’s collaborative spirit.
