The Grand Egyptian Museum has officially opened its doors, marking a significant cultural event attended by an array of royals and dignitaries from across the globe. The festivities unfolded in Cairo, highlighting Egypt’s rich historical contributions to civilization.

Among the notable figures present, Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, represented President Sheikh Mohamed during the ceremony. Alongside him were prominent members of regional royal families, including Queen Rania of Jordan and her daughter, Princess Salma. Also attending were Oman’s Crown Prince, Theyazin bin Haitham, and the Crown Prince of Bahrain, Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, demonstrating the event’s importance across the Middle East.

Queen Rania shared her impressions on social media, referring to the occasion as a “magnificent tribute to Egypt’s rich ancient history.” Adding to the grandeur of the event, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi welcomed the attending dignitaries alongside his wife, Entissar Amer El Sisi.

In his address, President El Sisi emphasized the significance of the museum’s opening, declaring it a step towards “writing a new chapter” in Egypt’s ongoing narrative. He noted that the event attracted an impressive turnout of 79 international delegations, including 39 heads of state and government.

The president viewed the museum as a platform for sharing Egypt’s vast cultural heritage with the world. “Tonight, we are witnessing a new chapter in the story of this ancient nation’s present and future,” he stated, rallying support for Egypt’s cultural endeavors.

A Spectacular Opening Ceremony

The opening ceremony commenced with an official group photograph featuring the dignitaries, setting the stage for a captivating experience. The attendees were treated to a musical symphony, which included a drone and light show designed to accentuate the architectural harmony between the museum and the iconic Pyramids of Giza.

Egyptian composer Hesham Nazih debuted a special piece specifically created for the opening, further enriching the evening’s performances. The array of international royals present included Japan’s Princess Akiko of Mikasa, Prince Albert of Monaco, Queen Mary of Denmark, and Spain’s King Felipe VI, illustrating the global reach of this significant event.

Adding a touch of glamour, the rarely seen Egyptian actress Sherihan graced the stage in a resplendent gold sequinned gown by Elie Saab. She performed alongside a group of dancers, dressed in uniform golden lamé costumes that captured the spirit of the occasion.

The Grand Egyptian Museum is home to an extensive array of historical artifacts, including the complete treasures of King Tutankhamun, displayed together for the first time since the discovery of his tomb in 1922. With a total collection exceeding 100,000 artifacts, the museum stands as the world’s largest dedicated to a single civilization.

President El Sisi noted that half of these artifacts will be on display, making it a crucial resource for scholars and tourists alike. Covering 500,000 square meters, the museum complex includes 12 grand halls and beautifully landscaped gardens, providing an expansive showcase of Egypt’s historical timeline from prehistoric times through to the Greco-Roman era.

While the formal inauguration took place on Saturday, the museum will fully open to the public in the coming days, promising an unprecedented opportunity for both locals and international visitors to immerse themselves in Egypt’s rich heritage.
