Jason Derulo Opens Up on Love, Heartbreak, and Marriage Plans in Dubai
Embracing Life’s Challenges
“I think that’s one of my gifts, to be able to roll with the punches. Like you said, I’m the kind of person that always sees a glass half full as opposed to half empty.” This perspective sets the tone as Jason Derulo reflects on his approach to life’s adversities. Rather than lamenting the challenges he faces, Derulo seeks to transform them into musical triumphs.
Why Dubai is His Chosen Stage
When asked why he selected Dubai for the launch of his new single, Who Hurt You, there is no sign of hesitation in Derulo’s response. “Are you kidding me? Of course, I’m really excited to be here, as always… this is my favourite place in the world. So I was like, why not come do it in Dubai?” His affection for the city runs deep; he views it not merely as a stop on a global tour, but as a cultural epicenter poised for the future.
“Dubai isn’t just about luxury and architecture. It encompasses safety and a vision for tomorrow,” he elaborates. This is not merely promotional language. Derulo recognizes Dubai as a pivotal location in the music industry where global trends are born.
His New Single: Flirty and Caribbean-Infused
Who Hurt You encapsulates Derulo’s knack for blending genres while addressing personal themes. “It’s a fun song. It’s taking a twist on the hashtag people utilize… It’s a storytelling piece about a young woman. Whatever happened, I’m going to be that person that you can lean on. It’s very flirty, very club, very party. You want to get up and dance,” he shares.
The song pays homage to his cultural roots. “It has a merengue vibe… I’m from Haiti, and the Dominican Republic is an island that we share. I love that,” he adds, underscoring his connection to Caribbean music.
Turning Pain into Power
When the conversation shifts back to the theme of heartbreak—specifically who has hurt him—Derulo opens up. “Anytime something negative happens in my life, I’m trying to figure out what the positive is… whether it’s a lesson… whether it’s gonna take me to the next level,” he explains. He views breakups and disappointments as opportunities for growth. “If I have a bad breakup, I’m gonna go to bed that evening and figure out how to become a better version of me. It’s almost like… the sweetest revenge.”
Rather than letting negative experiences consume him, Derulo maintains a focus on recovery and self-improvement.
Navigating Modern Love in a Swiping World
Delving into today’s dating culture, Derulo comments on the superficiality that often characterizes modern relationships. “Dating culture today… is so noncommittal, people won’t even commit to a burger,” he laughs, before becoming more reflective. He acknowledges the complexities of seeking companionship in an era defined by fleeting connections.
“Don’t close yourself off to anything… I’m not necessarily looking for a relationship, but I’m also not closing myself off to it. Life is very short. I want to protect my peace… But if I feel like a situation brings me more good than bad, I’m going to try to work on that,” he shares. His current stance on love is balanced; he is not pursuing it fervently but remains open to what life may bring.
