Kate’s Kiss for William as Polo Match Raises Over £1 Million for Children’s Cancer Center
Prince William participated in the DMMI Royal Charity Polo Cup today in Windsor, accompanied by the Princess of Wales. This marked the 15th time he has played in this prestigious event, which has collectively raised £15 million for various charitable causes.
A Successful Match for Charity
The charity polo match saw Prince William on the winning team, contributing to an impressive total of £1,050,000 raised during the event. The funds will be allocated to ten different charities supported by both William and Kate, furthering their commitment to charitable work. The Princess of Wales presented the cup and other awards, sharing a heartfelt moment with her husband as they walked hand in hand across the pitch.
Benefiting Children’s Health Initiatives
This year, for the first time, a portion of the funds raised will benefit Evelina London Children’s Hospital, one of Kate’s patronages. The hospital is planning to open a new principal treatment center that will provide specialized cancer services for children in London and the South-East. Gubby Ayida, the chief executive of Evelina London, expressed gratitude for being a beneficiary of the event, highlighting the timing as crucial for their fundraising efforts.
Ayida emphasized the importance of the new center, stating that it aims to offer comprehensive care for children battling cancer, which often requires long-term treatment. He noted that the emotional and logistical challenges faced by families during such times are significant.
Support for Families and Holistic Care
The Evelina Children’s Charity is actively fundraising to enhance facilities that cater to the needs of children and their families. Ayida remarked on the Princess’s commitment to supporting the hospital’s mission, noting her empathy and understanding as a mother. He stated that her involvement brings a sense of hope and positivity to both the children and the staff.
During a recent visit to the hospital, Kate engaged with the medical team working on the cancer specialist center, as well as with parents, providing valuable insights into their experiences.
Addressing Homelessness and Other Causes
In addition to supporting children’s health, the polo match also raised awareness for other important causes, including homelessness. The Passage, a charity close to Prince William’s heart, will benefit from the funds raised. The prince has been involved with The Passage since he was 11 years old and has made combating homelessness a key focus of his philanthropic efforts.
Mick Clarke, CEO of The Passage, expressed appreciation for the financial support, especially during the current cost-of-living crisis. He noted that the funds will be instrumental in helping to prevent and end homelessness.
A Commitment to Emergency Services
The Wales Air Ambulance, celebrating its 25th anniversary, is another beneficiary of the funds raised. Dr. Sue Barnes, the chief executive, highlighted the financial challenges faced by the service, noting that each mission costs approximately £3,500. She expressed gratitude for the support, emphasizing that events like the polo match not only provide financial assistance but also raise awareness about their critical work.
Barnes mentioned that Prince William’s previous experience as an air ambulance pilot enhances his understanding of their mission. His visits to the service’s bases are always welcomed, as they foster a sense of community and support among the staff.
As reported by www.mirror.co.uk, the polo match serves as a platform to raise awareness and funds for various charities, reaching audiences that may not typically engage with these causes.
