Khloé Kardashian Speaks Out: Feels “Played” After Lamar Odom Claims He Married Her for Fame in Netflix Doc
Khloé Kardashian has publicly addressed her involvement in the Netflix documentary, The Death & Life of Lamar Odom, which chronicles the former NBA star’s near-fatal overdose in 2015. Directed by Ryan Duffy and released last month, the documentary features separate interviews with both Kardashian and Odom, detailing their tumultuous relationship.
Documentary Overview
The documentary recounts the events surrounding Odom’s overdose at the Love Ranch brothel near Las Vegas. In her segment, Kardashian reflects on her experience caring for Odom during his recovery and reveals that she had paused their divorce proceedings to support him. Following the documentary’s release, Odom has contested several of Kardashian’s claims, prompting her to share her perspective.
Frustration with Odom’s Response
In a recent episode of her podcast, Khloé in Wonder Land, Kardashian expressed her frustration over Odom’s negative comments about her after she dedicated hours to the documentary as a favor. She stated, “Do people think I just like talking about this all day? It’s traumatic. I have to relive things. I have to talk about things that weren’t fun in my life.”
Kardashian revealed that she was initially hesitant to participate in the documentary, wanting to ensure it would portray a positive narrative. She noted, “I wanted to make sure it was handled in the best way. I said I want to make sure this is a positive piece. I don’t really want to go down this road if it’s negative.”
After Netflix assured her that the documentary would be positive and emphasized that Odom had requested her participation, she agreed to take part.
No Financial Gain
Kardashian clarified that she did not receive any payment for her involvement in the documentary. “I willingly do the Netflix thing for Lamar. I’m not getting paid one penny to do this,” she said. She emphasized that she had no vested interest in the documentary’s success, stating, “It doesn’t matter to me if this documentary is made or not made. I don’t care.”
Despite her willingness to cooperate, Kardashian expressed disappointment that Odom did not communicate effectively with her during the process. She remarked that he took weeks to respond to her attempts to align on what he wanted her to share.
Clarifying Misunderstandings
While participating in the documentary, Kardashian noted that her comments were guided by a producer’s questions. She stated, “I am just doing exactly what the producer is asking of me. I didn’t see the documentary in whole until it came out.”
Odom, during his promotional tour for the documentary, has made statements that Kardashian interpreted as insinuating she is “a liar.” He has claimed that his life was saved by God, rather than by Kardashian, and has disputed her assertion that his father wanted to take him off life support.
Kardashian expressed her frustration, saying, “I think what’s pissing me off is, we did this, all good. I was done with this. But now Lamar is doing press and saying he’s annoyed with me.”
Past Praise and Current Criticism
Kardashian reflected on the years when Odom praised her, stating, “For years he was singing my praises. I don’t even need you to sing my praises. But you’re not now going to shit on me or now play in my face because you don’t like the reaction and the response from the public.” She questioned why he would respond negatively when he had the opportunity to review the documentary and remove anything he found objectionable.
In the years following Odom’s overdose, Kardashian has remained largely silent, emphasizing that it was not her story to tell. “I would never expose someone that was not for me to expose. I kept all of that to myself for 11 years. I was asked by Lamar to do this documentary. I did it for him,” she said.
Feeling Misled
Kardashian expressed feelings of being misled, stating, “I feel played.” She also dismissed Odom’s claims that he had not seen the documentary in full, suggesting that he was trying to deflect attention from the public’s response to his comments.
In the documentary, Odom alleged that he married Kardashian for fame. Kardashian reacted to this assertion, saying, “Behind the scenes, you, your friends, you guys are all saying how you were with me just for fame? That’s like some messed up stuff. I feel so dumb. I spent hours and time doing this documentary as a favor.”
Ongoing Discontent
Kardashian expressed her dissatisfaction with being involved in the situation, stating, “I’m pissed that I’m even involved.” She has received messages questioning the shift in narrative since the documentary’s release, attributing it to the public’s more favorable response to her compared to Odom, which she believes has prompted him to attack her.
She noted that what she shared in the documentary was only “10 percent” of her experience and the things she could discuss.
