Led Zeppelin, Philosophy, and Punk Influence Dubai Fashion Week
Dubai Fashion Week’s spring/summer 2026 showcase is currently taking place at the Dubai Design District, featuring diverse talents from the fashion world. The event has seen a number of spectacular presentations that blend innovative design and cultural motifs, drawing attention from fashion enthusiasts.
Highlights from Days Two and Three
This year’s event has already offered memorable moments, particularly during the presentations of notable designers including Lama Jouni, Jozeph Diarbakerli, and Xenia.
Lama Jouni: A Short but Impactful Showcase
Lama Jouni’s design showcase was strikingly brief yet impactful, lasting under two minutes. Accompanied by the electrifying guitar riff of Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love,” models strutted the runway in pairs, adorned in light, jersey separates that delivered an empowering message of freedom and confidence.
“I don’t want to bore my audience. I like to, you know, make it strong, quick, and efficient,” Jouni remarked about her rapid-fire presentation. With a decade of experience in the fashion industry, she skillfully tapped into what her clientele desires. Her latest collection features an array of sassy shorts, loose trousers, and high-low hem dresses aimed at “young, vivacious, and powerful” women.
Jouni’s incorporation of slogan T-shirts and baseball caps worn alongside micro shorts exemplifies her casual approach to luxury. Her outfits are designed to transition effortlessly from day to night, reflecting her ethos that women should embrace risks and live life fully. “Women should be more forward, take more risks and live life fully,” she emphasized, highlighting the empowering nature of her collection.
Jozeph Diarbakerli: A Glamorous Debut
The runway saw the emergence of Jozeph and Cintia Diarbakerli, who made their debut during the event. The half-Syrian, half-Armenian sibling designers established their brand in Canada in 2024 and brought their high-energy aesthetic to Dubai.
Their collection drew inspiration from Hollywood glamour, described as “upper-class Duchess meets Berlin’s notorious Berghain nightclub.” The designs featured a mix of structured banded bodycon dresses and luxurious ostrich-tuffed mini dresses. Cintia explained, “She has feelings, mysteries, rumours and everything is behind her facade. You saw them all on the runway tonight.”
The finale included an unexpected twist, showcasing a dark, Victorian-inspired look instead of the traditional wedding gown. Jozeph remarked, “We didn’t want to do the typical bride, so we went with our own twist.” The show culminated with models wearing black ostrich-feather-covered shoes, highlighting the rebellious spirit of the duo’s approach.
Xenia’s Thoughtful Tribute and Unique Aesthetics
After her presentation, Croatian designer Xenia exhibited a somber mood backstage, reflecting on the recent passing of Giorgio Armani. Drawing from the Japanese philosophy of kintsugi, her collection explored themes of restoration and beauty in imperfections. “It’s a good life philosophy because we all make mistakes, but this does not mean it is bad. Instead, from every mistake, we learn something new and get better,” she commented.
Her couture collection, developed every two to three years, showcased intricate designs that balanced visible and hidden elements through transparent devore fabrics. Layered plisse tops and lightweight jackets acted as armor for the modern woman, while large squares of gauzy fabric draped elegantly to create a flowing silhouette.
Each piece revealed Xenia’s mastery of design and construction, featuring complex techniques that resulted in an ethereal appearance. The collection predominantly utilized a dark palette, interspersed with vibrant hues of green, silver, gold, and red. Xenia emphasized her affinity for asymmetry and unconventional silhouettes, stating, “I think the signature of the future is not symmetry. In nature, there’s always asymmetry, and I have been following these principles while designing this collection.”
Final Thoughts on Emerging Trends
Dubai Fashion Week’s spring/summer 2026 edition highlights diverse visions from both emerging and established designers. The combination of personal philosophies, influenced by cultural references and musical inspirations, showcases a shift in the fashion landscape. As designers explore deeper narratives, the event not only celebrates fashion but also underscores the sentiments and values that shape contemporary wardrobes.
