Lionel Messi scored a dramatic late winner in the 83rd minute, leading Inter Miami to a 2-1 victory over the New England Revolution on Sunday night. This crucial win not only marked Messi’s 26th goal of the season but also propelled Miami into second place in the Eastern Conference, just ahead of New England, with significant playoff implications at stake.
Messi’s performance was pivotal, as he also assisted German Berterame’s equalizer in the 69th minute. Inter Miami, now boasting a record of 16 wins, 6 losses, and 11 draws for a total of 59 points, snapped a two-match winless streak. In contrast, New England, with a record of 18 wins, 11 losses, and 4 draws, saw their four-match winning streak come to an end.
The match began with New England taking the lead in the 53rd minute through Daniel Gazdag, who scored after a well-executed setup by Peyton Miller. However, Inter Miami responded with urgency, and Berterame’s equalizer came shortly after, thanks to a clever assist from Messi. The interplay showcased Messi’s ability to create opportunities even when under pressure.
As the match progressed, Messi’s influence grew. He picked up a loose ball from about 30 yards out, weaving through multiple defenders before delivering a precise finish into the bottom left corner. This moment not only secured the win but also highlighted Messi’s exceptional skill and vision on the field.
New England’s hopes of equalizing were dashed when an 87th-minute goal was overturned after a video review, with the referee ruling Luca Langoni offside. This decision underscored the fine margins that can define matches at this level.
With only one regular-season match remaining, Inter Miami’s victory places them in a strong position as they prepare for the playoffs. The team will look to build on this momentum as they aim for a deep postseason run. For more details on the match, visit ARN News Centre.
