Malika Singh Takes Dubai Stage with Kelly Rowland and Sean Paul
Pursuing Authenticity in Music
Malika Singh has carved a unique path in the music industry, driven not by rebellion but by a desire for authenticity. Influenced by vocal powerhouses like Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, and Celine Dion, Singh embraces big ballads and soulful expressions. Her musical journey is not about chasing commercial success but rather about connecting deeply with her art.
Navigating the Entertainment Landscape
In discussing her journey, Singh openly acknowledges the role of privilege in her life. “Yes, I was lucky,” she states, highlighting the emotional and financial support from her family. Her mother even took the initiative to accompany her to Los Angeles, ensuring she was settled in her new environment. However, she emphasizes that such support alone is not sufficient when confronting the challenges of the entertainment industry.
“Dubai shelters you,” she remarks, reflecting on her transition from the comforts of home to the complexities of Los Angeles. In this new landscape, she often felt a sense of dislocation—struggling to find her place in Hollywood and feeling disconnected from her roots in India. Nevertheless, her dedication to her craft remained unwavering. “If you focus on your craft, something clicks somewhere,” she maintains. This commitment has been the cornerstone of her perseverance.
From Artist to Entrepreneur
Beyond her musical endeavors, Malika Singh is also an accomplished events entrepreneur. Thirteen years ago, she founded FED Events, a boutique firm dedicated to designing and producing weddings and other events. This venture was not merely a hobby but a necessity for financial survival.
“You have to pay your bills,” she quips, acknowledging the initial struggles within the music industry. The events business swiftly flourished, enabling her to reinvest in her music while maintaining her independence. Singh’s dual career underscores a valuable truth: whether through sound or visual art, she believes in the power of creating beauty.
“Music makes people feel,” she explains, “and events make people see. I love both.” Her latest release, Pray For You, marks a significant milestone, as it is the first song she has written and composed entirely by herself. Far from engaging in superficial pop trends, this track emerges from a profound and relatable space.
“This song is about choosing compassion when bitterness would be easier,” Singh clarifies, adding that it’s an exploration of acknowledging one’s past while letting go of the associated pain. The response to her music has been heartening; listeners—including former classmates and even young children—have shared how the song aids in their healing process. “That makes all the hustle worth it,” she expresses, affirming the fulfillment that comes from positively impacting others.
Balancing Life Between Cities
Currently, Malika Singh splits her time between Dubai and Los Angeles, while India remains home to her family. She is not pursuing fleeting trends or algorithm-driven fame; her focus remains on capturing the essence of emotions—something she has cherished since her teenage years in a small studio in Dubai.
“For anyone in Dubai who dreams big,” she encourages, “take the leap. Whether it leads you to India, LA, or someplace else—you’ll only know if you try.”
