In Off Campus, created by Louisa Levy and based on Elle Kennedy’s book series, Kalyn portrays Dean, a charming party boy and member of the Briar University hockey team. The show’s first season adapts Kennedy’s initial book, The Deal, while future seasons will explore different couples, mirroring the structure of the novels.

Kalyn initially auditioned for the role of John Logan, played by Antonio Cipriano. After submitting his audition tape, he did not hear back for some time. However, months later, he was called to audition for Dean. Despite the chaos of his schedule, his manager encouraged him to proceed with a Zoom audition, which ultimately led to a swift progression in the casting process.

Preparing for the Role

Kalyn’s preparation for the role of Dean included a two-week hockey boot camp with his co-stars, Belmont Cameli, Cipriano, and Jalen Thomas Brooks. A suggestion from the show’s creator led them to plan a dinner together, but they opted for a Pilates class instead. Unfortunately, Kalyn arrived late and was unable to join the class, leading to a humorous exchange with Abdalla. Despite the initial hiccup, the two ended up having a lengthy conversation over dinner, which helped lay the groundwork for their on-screen relationship.
