Oskar Flodstrom’s Viral Success: From Facebook Marketplace to $150K in Sales
Oskar Flodstrom, a 23-year-old artist based in Los Angeles, has turned a simple find on Facebook Marketplace into a remarkable business venture, grossing $150,000 in sales within just two weeks. Flodstrom’s journey began when he opted out of college to pursue his passion for music and art, a decision that has now led to a viral product success.
The Creative Spark
Flodstrom’s artistic inclinations were evident from a young age, although he initially considered engineering as a career path. However, the pandemic disrupted his senior year of high school, prompting him to focus on his creative pursuits instead. Inspired by music producer Kenny Beats, he began making music while teaching swim lessons to support himself.
Transforming a Marketplace Find
While browsing Facebook Marketplace for free items to decorate his apartment, Flodstrom discovered a clear acrylic base that sparked his creativity. After months of contemplation, he transformed it into a pill bottle-shaped side table, using materials that cost him around $120. His approachable demeanor helped him secure discounts on supplies, further minimizing his costs.
Going Viral and Collaborating with NO LOGO
Flodstrom decided to document the creation process on social media, where he goes by Erik Oskr. His video showcasing the pill bottle table went viral in June, attracting the attention of NO LOGO, a company that partners with creators to manufacture products. They offered to produce a sample based on Flodstrom’s design and helped him set up a Shopify website.
Sales Surge and Future Plans
After a slow start due to initial marketing challenges, a creative video demonstrating the table’s use as a laundry basket led to explosive sales, reaching 1 million views per hour and resulting in 200 sales. Flodstrom’s product has maintained steady sales, averaging between $1,500 and $4,000 daily. He estimates a significant profit margin after accounting for manufacturing costs.
Looking ahead, Flodstrom is eager to expand his product line, with ideas for innovative designs including a giant razor blade mirror and a lava lamp made from a Sprite bottle. He aims to leverage social media and affiliate opportunities to sustain his business momentum.
Flodstrom’s story exemplifies the potential of creativity and entrepreneurship in the digital age, demonstrating how a simple idea can lead to substantial financial success. For more details on his journey, visit Entrepreneur.
